DEPUTY Labor leader Tanya Plibersek got more than she bargained for during a visit to the Sydney Fish Markets this morning, leaving with a new pet rat.A young lady dumped the rat in Ms Plibersek’s hands before leaving the venue.
Ms Plibersek agreed to take it home for her children and launched a Twitter competition to name it with the handle #nametherat.
Turns out the whole incident was a stunt from The Chaser team in the wake of a poll about which pollie you could trust to look after your pet.
Bill Shorten would only gingerly stroke the rat with one finger but his deputy seemed more enamoured as she hugged it close.
The Opposition Leader and Prime Minister are in Sydney today after attending the first State of Origin match last night.
