The God of the ancient Israelites entered into a solemn covenant with all of the people whom he redeemed from captivity and slavery in Egypt [Egypt = = a land of [spiritual] darkness].



And the God of Israel stipulated, in that covenant, with the people of ancient Israel, that those persons who blatantly betrayed, disregarded, and broke, their holy covenant with their God [by engaging in unholy behaviour], must be put to death.

No, it is even simpler than that.

Blatant covenant breakers, by assent and mutual agreement [cited Exodus 19:8], were to be put to death.

In the people of the ancient Israelites, God wanted to have a relationship with a people who God himself, could define as moral and spiritually clean.            [see Deuteronomy 4:7-8]

That exact desire, of God our creator [which was revealed in the O.T.], was also restated again, and again, in the New Testament.


2 Timothy 2:19
....the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.


Matthew 7:21
