A long time ago I spent some time in Dallas.

I am in the US 6 times per year - 5 work related in LA and NY and one vacation (Disneyland next month - this will be far the most difficult visit).

I just find Americans to be incredibly nice (even the New Yorkers) but infuriating same time.

At Heathrow their simple inability to understand how to fill out a form, go through the right gate, stare blankly at screens not comprehending that the British Airways plane is actually the American Airlines plane as well under a code share etc

I don't know if its idiocy or ignorance - or both but they kill me.

I have been back living and working in the USA for a few years now, in Atlanta actually. Like you say Andrei, Americans are incredibly nice, sometimes annoyingly so, but their worldview can be infuriating, and their tendency towards polar opposites regarding the simplest matters is puzzling.

I'd say for the most part that is true. Ask any American kid where Central America is and they will most likely tell you "Kansas."  I was only in New York (Manhattan proper) for two days so really can't say much about the politeness of the populace there. When I was stationed at Paris Island in South Carolina did I meet some of the nicest, friendliest people but that again, I think that's just the way of the south or that's the way they treat those in the service; the people there have a sense of charm about them.

By far the worst people I've ever met (besides Texuuns and southern Californians) were the British. Didn't care much for London. I found the place to be one of the dirtiest places on earth (once you get passed the tourist traps) and being an American it's just so ingrained to say "Have a nice day" to someone - but not the limeys. "Don't tell me what kind of a smacking day I should have you bloody Yank." was usually the response back.


Have never been to Australia but have found most of the Australians I have run across to be quiet in comparison with others foreigners I've run across. A Briton living here will boast how about friggin' English they are and how much they really don't care for America except for, of course, "Florrrreeeda" or that their really crappy band is living in L.A. flophouse apartment knowing they are "going to make it "big" someday.

Ask any Australian here where they are from and they'll simply say, "Australia, mate." and that's it. They go back to what they were doing. No complaints, no boasting, nothing.
