Fully 56 percent of Americans think the FBI’s leading man, James Comey, ought to have recommended Hillary Clinton for indictment over her handling of emails while serving as secretary of state, a new poll revealed.
An ABC News/Washington Post survey shows that thanks to Comey’s recommendation against charging Clinton, a majority of Americans are now concerned she might not be able to handle her responsibilities as president, if elected, in the best manner possible.
Still, most aren’t changing their minds about voting for Clinton, ABC News reported. It’s just that now, of Clinton’s Democratic and independent supporters, 28 percent are less supportive of her than they normally would be.
As ABC summarized: “Overall, 56 percent disapprove of FBI Director James Comey’s recommendation not to charge Clinton, while just 35 percent approve. Similarly, 57 percent say the incident makes them worried about how Clinton might act as president if she is elected, with most very worried about it. Just 39 percent feel the issue isn’t related to how she would perform as president.”
By the party, the numbers are more divided.
Roughly nine of 10 Republicans disagree with Comey’s decision to cut Clinton loose of culpability, and say it worries them about how she’d run the White House. By contrast, about two-thirds of Democrats approve of Comey’s decision, and don’t see any correlation between her email server scandal and the actions she would take as president, if elected. But even three in 10 Democrats say she should have been charted.
And the response from the independent camp showed this, ABC reported: “Roughly 6 in 10 independents say the FBI was wrong and that the issue raises worries about Clinton as president
