I see. So even reading the Koran quietly to yourself could be illegal, depending on your motivation?

surely it's not to  difficult for you?

if they're trying to convince someone to behead an infidel, they should be charged with conspiracy to commit murder ... if they're just reading scriptures as part of their bible study, then I don't have a problem with it

Well, they are not known for their competence. But it was not all that long ago, in a historical context, that they had the biggest empire the world had ever seen, and nearly destroyed all of western civilisation with it. I'm pretty sure that if the world took your approach of standing back and letting it happen, they would. For example, the middle east does not appear capable of dealing with ISIS on it's own, and Iraq is actually asking for foreign assistance. Assad possibly also. Just because they want to become matyrs does not mean it is wrong to do as they wish. Who knows what ISIS could achieve in a century or two if foreign countries kept taking your idiotic approach of deciding it is none of their business until it is knocking on their front door.

you should write fairy tales for a living. You keep forgetting that what you are seeing now is a direct RESULT of the Wests intervention. If the west hadn't made up faux evidence of WMD in order to show them who's boss, ISIS would not exist

freediver wrote on Jul 26th, 2016 at 5:38am:
Pick one (of many, there are actually plenty of them) at random and it would probably be better than yours.

and yet you still haven't been able to pick one

I try to avoid incorporating people's motives into the rules for this forum, with good reason. I struggle to see how you could incorporate this into law.

So we should not have stopped the Caliphate from invading France or kicked them out of Spain?

Do you think the Caliphate was some kind of fairytale?

I would prefer the status quo to your 'final solution' for Israel.

I'll agree, it's not an easy one. But the courts consider motive all the time and they seem to do OK most of the time

You sure you don't want to go back further in history? It can only help your cause.

I'm talking about invading Iraq.

Isis was formed by Saddams former generals. They would never have dared try  it with Saddam in charge.

yeah ... cause that's working well isn't it. So well in fact that you dedicate almost every comment you make on this forum to telling us how they're trying to kill us infidels.

And my solution was for the ME, not Israel. I don't give a rats arse either way about Israel.

The courts may consider what motivated you to harm someone, not what motivated you to read a passage out loud from a religious text. When religious people get together to talk about religion, how are you ever going to untangle what are most likely many different motives?

I see you have forgotten what we are talking about John. Here it is again for you:

Were you saying the invasion of Iraq was a fairy tale, or that the Caliphate was a fairy tale?

they'd probably rely on any evidence they have and common sense  ... same as they do when they discuss motive for any other crime

I was saying that your 'predictions' for what will happen are a fairy tale

he had a good enough track record to led me to believe so

Can you give some examples? It seems to me that the evidence would point towards an actual crime, and that the motive, and the fact that the person read a passage from the Koran, is unnecessary to prosecute that crime.

What predictions?

No. Some ideas are so idiotic there is no need to try them to know they are idiotic. Only a fool would go around deliberately doing stupid things just to prove they are in fact stupid. Fortunately for us, our politicians do not treat foreign policy like a science experiment.

no, out politicians do whatever the Americans ask them to do.

not sure why you struggle so much with it?? I didn't propose a 'final solution' as you call it, I said we leave them to sort their poo out. It applies to everyone in the ME.

and you still haven't explained yourself FD .... if you are so enamored by the current policies and you believe it's working and no better options are possible, why do you spend so much time on here telling us that we have to stop the muslims? You realise that our current policies aren't about stopping the muslims, right?

So what happens when ISIS or something similar swallows the middle east and keeps expanding? At what point do you realise how stupid your proposal is? When the radioactive cloud drifts over your home?

I did not say I am, just that they are a whole lot better than yours. And no, I do not need to see them fail to know this.

so for you a policy that has been an abject failure is 'better' than a solution that hasn't been tried?  Grin Grin Grin

Why is it unlikely? The whole reason we, the Americans, the Russians, the UK etc are getting dragged back into this is because neither Assad nor Iraq are capable of handling ISIS on their own.

And what makes the middle east so special that you would happily sit back and watch it descend into chaos and only draw the line when it spreads further. There are equally dysfunctional places throughout Africa. Why not let ISIS swallow them also?

And what are you going to do about the millions of refugees and terrorists streaming out of the middle east ahead of the advancing Caliphate? Build a wall?

Quote:

There are far greater levels of failure that you are striving for. Are you really so naive that you could not see it getting a whole lot worse very quickly? Is that why you are so keen to lurch towards an idiotic policy that you have not thought through? Because it never occurred to you that it could be worse?

I think it boils down to one thing with freediver.  He will take any position he needs to if that means Israel is allowed to continue on its merry way with Western support.  My position is the complete opposite.  Those in Israel are giving ample notice that 'Tasmania' is available for them if they choose to go to that Land I Promised Them, or they take their chances staying....and that will be without any support from the West.

Those who elect to stay there sort out their own schit with their neighbours, as Mr Smith is saying.

are we worrying about African terrorists?

close down the borders.

says the guy who thinks burying our head in the sand and continuing to do the same thing we've done for the last 100 yrs will suddenly wield a different result simply because he wishes it so  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy.

things are getting worse FD ... the more we get involved, the worse it is becoming. We went from 1 million refugees fleeing Syria pre western bombing, to 13 million after we joined in to 'help'.
