Some take always from recent NBC interview:

- we might quit the WTO, it's a disaster
- this followed a question on his oft-repeated promise, stated again, to slap a 30% import tax on companies that moved manufacturing o/s, like to Mexico or China
- NATO might have to go if members didn't shoulder their fair share of defence costs. This is not 50 years ago, this is now and America isn't the same country.

He isn't joking and his outlook wouldn't be changed, as has been suggested, when he gets Intel briefings.

Its not about joking... The man is a pathological liar and a fool.

The end of NATO is a Russian objective that will create a power vacuum in Europe, which Russia intends to exploit.

Another one of Boey's Boy hook and sinker post.

Besides, what would Trump care about the WTO when he would rather eliminate every legal, financial and government restraint on the accumulation of wealth by the capitalist class? Trump can't wait to appeal the 16th amendment while lowering the corporate tax rate for all of his Wall Street buddies. Government regulations will also be gone, as well as Medicaid and transitioning Medicare into a program for subsidizing the purchase of private insurance.

Trump will also gut Social Security and replace any remaining welfare programs with “the dynamic compassion of work requirements." Gone also will be the EPA.

And that's just for starters.

Does that mean you'll have to hang out holding a cardboard sign at intersections, and sleep under overpasses Marlon?

I can't wait.

In order to promote wealth one has to crack a few eggs because there's no such thing as a 'Money Tree'.

Needless to say the US presidency is not an autocratic dictatorship, and there are many checks-and-balances in place to ensure presidential decisions meet with broad approval from the Faceless Men who beaver away behind the scenes.

I wish our God-Niece Marla would do the same with her Political Compass, bogarde. As she approaches Age 30 she's getting a little long-in-the-tooth, but it behooves us not to give up on her.

Her posting here is a Cry for Help, of course, and we must stand firm with her until she has passed this 'Socialism' fantasy out of her system like a painful kidney stone.

Oh really?

Are you talking about a book you've been trying to write since 1988, or are you actually trying to suggest that empires voluntarily self-disintegrate?

I agree absolutely with everything in that summary.
- the WTO works only for the global trade cheats
- America has poured out its treasure defending Europe for long enough
- doing something about protecting your own country's jobs beats hoping everything will magically get better

You never ever know till you really really try.

Isn't that exactly what the US intended to do at the start of WW2 (with WW1 in hindsight)? How much more quickly would Germany have been defeated had the US entered the war in 1939?

Only the pathologically stupid could imagine that an imperial state can just withdraw from the world at no cost to its influence or economic prosperity.

Mr Putin is rubbing his hands together with glee.

Just what we need a massive power vacuum in Europe!

You thought the power vacuum in Iraq started something. You aint seen nothing yet!

Do you know how difficult it was for Roosevelt to even organise virtually clandestine help for Britain at that time because of the overwhelming isolationist sentiment in Congress and the country at large?
If Japan had not been so stupid as to attack Pearl Harbour & the Phillipines, it may have been quite a while longer before the US got involved.

Exactly!

Was the US and the world not worse off for the US delayed entry into WW2?

How many millions would not have died?

How many cities and nations would have been spared?
