Herb, you are indulging in wishful thinking. If Trump wants to get elected he needs votes. There several perfectly logical arguments he could have deployed in the face of the Muzlim marines family, but as usual, Trump doesn't think before he speaks. He has made Muzlims the victims, and pissed off US marines. If you think that is the way to advance his cause, you are dreaming. Then you have his stupid address to Russian hackers. Watch his pathetic performance with Stephanopoulos as he tries to suggest that he has made sacrifices. The man is clutching at straws. If he debates H Clinton, she will tear him to shreds. She may be many things, but she's not as big a fool as Donald.

The whole reason Trump has got this far in his candidacy is precisely because he hasn't been aping the baby-kissing and the saccharine bullshitting of the Political Class that is so well demonstrated by Hillary Clinton.

But okay - I agree Trump has got to rein back on his shooting-from-the-hip style of politicking, and it's time he became a little less abrasive with his words, but I have absolutely no issue with him over his remarks about the Muslim parents.

Both Trump and Clinton have professional persuaders working for them at the highest levels. Watch Trump A/B test during speeches. Someone is giving him this material. When he gets the response from the crowd he is looking for he sticks with whatever message worked then goes on to try another one at another gathering. "Hillary Rotten Clinton." Her actual name is Hillary Rodham Clinton, a play on words that helps memory retention. Trump didn't come up with that himself. And his base loves it.

Yet, his campaign does seem to be imploding. But Trump has a few more tricks up his sleeve. Hillary can be brought down. [/quote]

Obviously NorthofNorth you didn't watch Trump's Acceptance Speech in its entirety. I based earlier comments on his really good performance. However as he continues to stumble and blunder with some outrageous statements I am, wondering where that Candidate who performed so well in his speech has gone.

Yes I'm an ex cop and you go where the evidence takes you.

One speech does not a conman unmake...

Don't most, if not all, crims have at least one fine speech (probably what his lawyer has slapped up for him) that 'explains everything' (if you know what I mean) ?

Since the Republican convention, Trump has made one stupid statement after another. I think a kind of Republican mutiny is possible. For one thing, as a Republican, you don't offend the Marine Corp, and veterans.

I think you can count on the military being rock solid for Trump when the alternative is what it is.

I agree, you can trust the military experience and the support of courage from the guy who got 5 deferrments from the Vietnam war.

What I find fascinating is the hypocrisy and the selective blindness of all these morally righteous commentators who are falling over one another to lambaste Trump as some sort of unique ogre to have now suddenly appeared on the US political scene.

The fact is he's a Boy Scout compared to the previous presidents who initiated the fatal lunacies of 'Vietnam', and then helped supply Saddam with weaponry before then bombing Iraq back into the Stone Age, and then the bombing of Qaddafi in Libya, and then 'Afghanistan' ...

The mischief that has occurred under the watch of other recent presidents puts Trump's little gaffes and idiosyncrasies well into the shade.

Some perspective, please, you guys!

The roll-call of recent US Presidents who have been blundering around signing-off on overseas military adventures are a Horror Story compared to Trump's Candy Floss hairstyle and extravagant way with words.

A bit like saying that, because all airline crashes involve pilots who have a license to fly, they should be replaced by those who don't... Cos y'know at least unlicensed pilots haven't crashed a plane... yet.

Find me any positive or even non-negative story the Washington Post has run about Trump.
It's part of the conga line weaving a protective mantra around Clinton.
