I always find comments like that amusing, because it is a fact that the genealogy of the Australian Aborigine is as barstardised as that of the English who supplanted them.

I hope to live long enough to discover the answer to that question. There has been a long history of people displacing one another in this country.

It would be interesting to discover who were the 'first' of those.

Just imagine the panic of the 'land rights' movement.

The Muslims are not coming here for Aboriginal culture and society. They are coming here for the society and the benefits white Europeans have created in Australia.

If this was still a tribal Aborigines place they would get speared and killed for unacceptable behaviour. Aborigines are not any more welcoming of Islamic intruders than they are of Europeans. But if they stopped for a moment and weighed up the choices they would always count their blessing for having the English discover them rather than the Muslims - Australia could be like Indonesia or Malaysia, rather than as it is.

But Terra Nullius implies that it was empty, and we know that it was not. That is not the question under discussion. It had nothing to do with Cook, he was merely the one who heralded the British 'invasion'. It could have been either the Dutch, or more likely, the French who 'invaded'- in which case 'land rights' would be a non-issue today.

The question was: 'Who was here first?"

The answer appears to be the Aborigine.

My question was: "Which one?"

See the distinction?

You can argue about the past as much as you like, to no conclusion.

WHAT MATTERS is NOW. WHAT MATTERS IS WHAT WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR. ALL THE FINGER-POINTING AND BLAMING ABOUT THE PAST MEANS NOTHING.

iT IS a diversionary tactic to get us to talk about something else than OUR RESPONSIBILITY of CARE, and how we, the Australian people, are abrogating our responsibility and ALLOWING, and indeed ENABLING inhumane treatment of helpless people. It doesn't matter how they got (as close as they are allowed) here.. what matters is how we are responding. And I MUST SAY AGAIN, we are disgusting .
