PB; I'll try and explain another position (hopefully) without satisfying  all of your preconceived stereotypes  of vileness. One of the pull factors that lead to 51,000 boat arrivals in the space of three years was the common knowledge among Indonesian people smugglers  that the ALP, the VERY politicised HRC and the leftist media where (and are) open to a good sob story. We've  now learnt, (such as in the case of the Somalian woman who claimed she was raped only to retract in the 11th hour upon facing the threat of deportation  for making false accusations) that the sob stories don't  even need to be true. We keep hearing of a lot about a few geniune cases of abuse scattered with hearsay, threats of self harm and outraged, hanky-wringing about the nature of detention. All very unfortunate  and sad. While not offering a justification; I merely ask, white-hamlet man; Do you have a PERFECT alternative  that doesn't  involve reopening  the Timor seaway, drownings in Australian waters and ushering in unscreened Jihadis?

Firsfly, the Australian Government is doing it's  part to prevent asylum seekers drowning at sea; if other countries refuse to adopt a stance that works, then perhaps you should be protesting the open border policies of other countries rather than adopting an illogical argument merely because it comes from your favourite thought criminals (the Liberal Party). Secondly, rehashing the same ole' posts over and over without offering solutions makes you yet another, standard SJW. Yea, it's  up to SOMEONE else  to come up with the answer; I'll  just sit back and take shots from behind the relative safety of a keyboard. Thirdly, Monis was screened and granted residency. That was a mistake. Is your argument that mistakes are made when asylum seekers are screened,so let's  not worry about screening?

Mandatory  detention is a function of screening maritime arrivals who like to ditch their passports. We've  been over this a million times. You don't  have an alternative that maintains the border security requirements  that most Australians demand. Classic keyboard warrior politics; attack the best policy that  EITHER party has come up with without offering  ONE SINGLE suggestion.
