That's easy.

We will do what we always do, send them lots and lots of cash for doing absolutely nothing.
We are real good at that.
Just need to fleece the Australian taxpayer a bit more so we can send the money overseas to people who hate us.

Whats that I hear?
Fix the hospitals, schools, roads, help the homeless in Australia and use the money to help Australians?

NEVER, cant do that can we

That's right, we are all racist bigots who do nothing for anyone aren't we?

That's about it.

But!!

I have heard 'Our Betters' arguing that if we DON'T saturate the island nations to the north of us - China will - in order to get a foothold in these islands where they can build rocket launchers and such.

I don't know the answer to this scenario.

PNGs problem then.

What's the Manus Island economy going to survive on now?

Perhaps the Australian taxpayer paying the PNG government, like usual?

I suspect the aid budget might be taking a hit...or about to go up.   Cool

Perhaps you haven't heard that Australian aid overseas has been hugely cut in recent years,  that Australia is now considered to be the worst contributor overseas of any so-called developed countries in the world. It is known by many other countries, and it is an embarrassment for our govt.

But I'm sure that can only make YOU lot happy.
But what it does is further diminish us in the eyes of the world. I imagine you are aware that the detention of refugees off-shore is a source of disgust overseas, as well as to many of us here in Australia.

How low do YOU want us to go.?? Sad

Any concern about what is happening to kids (and women) we have plonked on Nauru?
If Australia starts buckling and taking in asylum seekers the boats will start up again aussie. It's a stand off. We've been over this a million times.

Emma, the Australian government has adopted a policy similar to the old saying: If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Give a man the means to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.

AusAid's goal is to have a reciprocal approach to the overseas aid given. We want to see results in what we give. If the Re: Nauru disgrace.

It sure makes MEEE happy. Any move our government makes AWAY from being a hand-puppet to the One World No-Borders Socialists at UN headquarters tells me the boys and girls down there in Canberra are developing the guts to finally grow up and stop looking over their shoulder for UN approval for every decision they make.

We've got patients sleeping on gurneys in hospital corridors because there's no funding for building new hospitals, but meanwhile millions in charity dollars is being posted overseas by the idiots down in Canberra who struggle to understand the concept of 'prioritising' tax revenue.

Wake up to yourself. This childish anxiety about how the world might be viewing Australia for its various decisions is pathetic in the extreme.

The US and the UK have a population of over 200 million each.
We barely have 25 million people.

Per capita we give generously, just not at the levels that the UN demands we give.

WE have many homeless people here, who get little or no help, Should we not fix that problem first?
We have many homeless children here, should they not priority?
We have many pensioners who are living well below the poverty line, who have worked and paid taxes all their lives and are now thrown on the scrap heap because they no longer pay tax, should they not be considered?

I personally don't give a flying F$#K what other countries think of me.
I have been all over the world and seen how they treat their people, it aint nuffin to boast about.

Ill also bet France, Germany and Sweden wished they had taken the same line as us.

Most people think it means a person's first responsibility is for the needs of their own family and friends, yes?

Well, that's not what it originally meant.

"When people say 'Charity begins at home' they very often mean 'You should look after your own kids, family and own circle first and then be kind to people' which is not the original meaning of the proverb. The original meaning is that charity begins in the home - that is to say kids learn charity in the home." Link

"Charity begins at home" is one of those obnoxious phrases that people use to alleviate their guilt about never actually being charitable. But they are, of course, using the word "charity" in the sense that it's most commonly used today -- giving money or aid to poor people. When the phrase "charity begins at home" was first coined, the definition of "charity" was a little different. From Roman times up until recently, "charity" wasn't necessarily about giving alms. It was more of a state of mind, a mentality of kindness and benevolence. You know this if you've read a Bible, by the way -- the word for "charity" and the more general "love" are both translated from the same Greek word, "agape."

"The point being, when people first started saying "charity begins at home," what they were trying to get across was that being a loving person in the home leads to being a loving person out in the world. In other words, it served as an instruction about how to be more generous, which is kind of the opposite of the way it's used today as a warning against being too generous. Or, as other experts have pointed out, only an asshole could hear "charity begins at home" and interpret it to mean that it also ends there." Link

Who cares what it means.
I never even mentioned it.
I'm just saying that we should look after OUR country and OUR people before we worry about someone else's problem.

And rest assured, it is some else's problem.

We never caused it, they did it to themselves.

The US and UK are building weapons and selling them to the Terrorists.
Make these weapons manufacturers pay up, after all, they are the cause of the ongoing problem.
Cut the weapons and ammunition supply, and perhaps the trouble would diminish considerably.
Stop the weapons and ammunition supply and it would be gone in very little time.

But weapons manufacturers run governments and bribe politicians and public servants incessantly to allow them to ship all manner of weaponry anywhere they want.

They are the real cause

Yes, the old 'charity begins at home' excuse.

See my post above.
