Rush: Media Would Have Noticed a Killer's Father at a Trump Rally
If the father of the man charged with killing nine members of an African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina had attended a Donald Trump rally, it would be getting a lot more media attention than the father of the Orlando shooter attending a Hillary Clinton rally, talk radio host Rush Limbaugh says.
"You guys remember the name Dylann Roof?" Limbaugh said on his program on Tuesday. "Imagine if his dad showed up at a Trump rally . . . You think Trump would have been exonerated?"
Limbaugh was referencing the appearance of Seddique Mateen at a Clinton rally in Kissimmee, Florida, near Orlando on Monday.
Mateen is the father of Omar Mateen, who killed 49 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando. He was spotted behind Clinton as she spoke to the crowd, remembering the victims of the attack.
But Limbaugh said the mainstream media was shrugging off the incident, and even former Ted Cruz staffer Alice Stewart "exonerated Hillary," saying she simply thinks "that some Hillary staffer screwed up."
Limbaugh doubted the same would be said had the Charleston shooter's father appeared at a Trump rally.
"Oh, he couldn't possibly have known that Dylann Roof's dad was there. No way! Some staffer's head's gotta roll for that," Limbaugh said, imitating what Stewart said about the Clinton incident.
"You think they would say that?" he asked. "I kinda don't think so."
Limbaugh also advised Trump to avoid talking about the incident, suggesting it might be a "potential trap" to lure him into making a comment similar to his criticism of Khizr and Ghazala Khan, the parents of a Muslim American Army captain killed in Iraq.
