Or if you have daughters do you mind if they cop a flogging?

What? Shocked Perhaps you should start a poll.

I think it's a fair question. I'd like to know if some of these blokes that think it's ok to hit a women would feel the same if it was their mother or daughter being hit.

I don't like your chances of them telling you if there are any.

But that's just my point. If you wouldn't want your mother or daughter belted by another man what makes you think it's ok to hit the mother or daughter of someone else?

If you're prepared to shape up, be prepared for the response. Meeting your opponent on the gravel, one-on-one, has gone the way of the Do-Do.

Walk away, if that's how you deal with a situation not to your liking.

Confrontation, threat and abuse is another matter.

It's usually unwise to pick a fight where you have no chance. It's another thing altogether to go ape-shite where you have no choice.

Does anyone care what sex a home-invader might be?

Nobody gets to choose an assailant. Any response needs to be appropriate to the situation.

Oh, is this the never, ever argument?

I wouldn't like my mum, wife or daughter, if I had one, how about grand-daughter, hit. That does not give the women of my family the right to hit others, I would expect people to fight back and would understand that. IE It would depend on the circumstances.

You've never had to deal with a drunken, foul-mouthed, abusive, aggressive, female behemoth, have you? You think what you see is confined to the pub.

You reserve your attitude for the male sex. Little do you know.

You mammas, wooooo, baby!

Given 1. is correct, what is the 'appropriate' response in such a situation?

One gets tired of ducking.

It is not acceptable for a man to hit a woman.

There are extreme circumstances where someone may lose it and break this convention.
I'll give the example here of the father of Lesley Anne Downey who was held back by police from punching Myra Hindley who had assisted to rape, torture and murder his 10 year old daughter.
Who in his position may not react the same?

But in general and outside of such circumstances, it is just something you should never do.

I agree. I've been there.

I ran away....literally.

Life's too short as it is without being stuck with some @rsehole who's violent.

I have stated my position.

let's use a different example.

A woman verbally is offensive, rude and even maybe publically laughs at your manhood, burns the steak, sneaks ciggies when you have forbidden it or says something that totally offends your sensibilities... it is a shock... you are angry. BUT they are just words.

In this situation are you even entitled to strike the woman?
