HRC has a 6 or 7-point lead and things can go wrong — including somewhat inaccurate polling — and she can still win.
She will win. The question now is what Trump plans to do. I'll make a prediction - if it doesn't happen I will leave this thread.
Trump will make noises about going into the media business. Trump will announce that he never really lost the presidency, he only ever wanted a network. This was his plan all along, and he's already got past quotes to back himself up.
Trump will announce a new multi-media platform to rival Fox News - a new far-right TV/internet platform to broadcast and showcase - what else? The voice of Trump.
Trump already has Roger Ailles in his tent (after Ailles was sacked from Fox for sexual harrassment, no less). Trump also has Breitbart's CEO on staff. He even has his own televangelist - a cute Southern belle. And Trump has the loudest commentator/entertainment reviewer right in the Trump Tower penthouse - himself.
Trump is teaching all his staff how to use a video camera. It's like the birth of Hollywood all over again in Trump headquarters, everyone talking about "the talent" and "the narrative" and "the brand" (all Trump). Trump is already playing his anti-media card. He's found his place as the victim of the Establishment; the voice of Amerika; those poor, downtrodden masses yearning to breathe free.
So Trump will take to the airwaves: his new venture. But here's my prediction: it will be a masive failure if it ever gets off the ground to begin with. Here's why.
1. Trump is stingy. He bargains for everything. He never pays for meals out, and like the Queen, he almost never puts his hand in his pocket. Media platforms need content, and this requires investment. Trump thinks he can just put his name to a media brand and people will engage. Alas, not even Trump can talk 24 hours a day, and no one would want to listen anyway.
2. Roger Ailles is yesterday's man. Fox has been slipping since Bush left the White House. He's getting old, and starting up a new project like this is probably beyond him.
3. Trump has failed at everything but property development. This is the family business. The casinos, the resorts, and even the golf courses - failed. And while the Apprentice initially had great ratings, it lost traction as reality TV went out of style. Trump, of course, was finally sacked by the network for his negotiating style.
So, Trump won't invest the money, he hasn't got the right people, and his track history in business is not good. Trump's biggest drawcard (for Trump) - the Trump brand, is a kitch relic from the 80s. Trump has all the style of the Russian Mafia - the crystal chandeliers, the gold plating, the phallic fountains. The Trump brand is about aspiration to tacky displays of excessive wealth - think Hillsong's properity doctrine without God, but Trump - it is hardly the stuff of working-class Amerika. The biggest buyers of Trump's ghost-written self-help books are immigrants, fantasising about the Amerikan dream. Or in Trump's case, nightmare.
Trump's media venture is doomed to fail before it begins. This is my prediction.
If my prediction fails, I will leave this thread.
And if Trump wins the presidency, I will leave the board.
