Holier than thou rules ok

I am always amazed at the way the appearance of moral outrage triumphs over substance in America. I guess it has been transmitted over all the generations since those early pilgrim settlers.

My bet is those who clamour & get the most indignant over Trump's locker room sleaze are themselves the secret harbourers of lewd thoughts and desires about women . . .or worse.

It reminds me of Nixon. The same moral outrage brought him down because he lied. Lying or being careless with the truth is what politicians do and have to do.
Yet here was a president, not a pleasant person at all, who ended the Vietnam war, established relations with China, restored order in a country deeply divided and embroiled in riots & disorder much as today. But morality was outraged and he had to go.

America needs to grow up in many ways. They act in so many ways like children in the schoolyard.

Yeah, it's not like Nixon illegally invaded Cambodia and prolonged the war or anything.

What about the filth Hilary likes to scream out when she's having her rug munched? (According to unofficial reports from ex-staffers).

I know that morals, and moral outrage are out of fashion these days. That is in part a reaction to the heavy emphasis Western society once placed on morals and the appearance of moral rectitude. However, the weakness of current permissive philosophy is in its reluctance to criticise anything anymore, in case someone is offended. That will not work as a social foundation.

We are talking here, about the presidential candidate of a political party that was founded on the moral outrage. That outrage was against African slavery in the USA. Back in the “Sleepy Hollow” days communication was slow. But once information started to get out about the realities of slavery in the cotton culture, moral outrage grew a pace. Half a million people died over four years due to that moral outrage.

If Republicans wish to abandon that legacy in favour of the piggishness of Trump, simply to win this election, they need to be reminded that any future appeal on moral grounds will be seen as base hypocrisy.

His disgusting and personal insults, made blithely as if we all agree with him, are not what Republican tradition represents, but it is their choice. In his latest demonstration of arrogance Trump has tried to excuse his piggishness as mere “locker room banter.” With this he is trying to imply all men do the same, if women are not around, and therefore the President should be allowed to indulge.

I am not American man, but even so, I find that suggestion deeply offensive. I am from that social group that values decency, order, and the civilised consideration of those around us. I am not some thick-necked lout that guffaws at dirty jokes. But clearly Trump is. Republicans need to show some strength of character and get rid of him, unless they wish to melt into the permissive society.

Billionaire GOP donors, Robert & Rebekah Mercer, issued a statement of why they would continue to support Trump and it's exactly how I feel about it:

"If Mr. Trump had told Billy Bush, whoever that is, earlier this year that he was for open borders, open trade, and executive actions in pursuit of gun control, we would certainly be rethinking our support for him. If he had admitted to Mr. Bush that he had profited privately by allowing the sale to Russia of 20% of US uranium deposits or that he had amassed his personal fortune not by hard work in the private sector but by selling favors to foreigners on the American taxpayers’ dime, we would certainly be rethinking our support for him. If he had argued that he needed both a public and a private position on issues facing the American public, we would certainly be rethinking our support for him. And finally if Trump had serially terrorized and silenced the victims of violent sexual assault whom he feared could damage his political career, we would most definitely be rethinking our support for him.

Donald Trump’s uncensored comments, both old and new, have been echoed and dissected in the media repeatedly in an effort to kindle among his supporters a conflagration of outrage commensurate with the media’s own faux outrage. Can anyone really be surprised that Mr. Trump could have said to Mr. Bush such things as he has already admitted saying? No. We are completely indifferent to Mr. Trump’s locker room braggadocio.

The same media that resolutely looked away when the most powerful man in the world, a sitting U.S. president with multiple violent sexual assaults to his credit, snared an impressionable young intern in his web and ruined her life, now expects us to gasp with revulsion at Mr. Trump’s irreverent comments. America is finally fed up and disgusted with its political elite. Trump is channeling this disgust and those among the political elite who quake before the boombox of media blather do not appreciate the apocalyptic choice that America faces on November 8th. We have a country to save and there is only one person who can save it. We, and Americans across the country and around the world, stand steadfastly behind Donald J. Trump."

The statement was first reported by The Washington Post.iii

Its very fortunate for the world that Bogarde73 is totally irrelevant.

Bogarde73 is a man of continuous and perpetual mistakes and he is dogged in his defense of his mistakes and wrong decisions especially when he knows they are wrong.

The professional offence takers and holier than thou finger pointers cannot grasp that the majority of people don't care what Trump said 10 tears ago, or five years ago, or about his private conversations or un-PC opinions.  The majority of Americans are fed up with being talked down to by the political elite, the same people who have ensured that corruption in politics and government has become normal, the political elite epitomised by the Clinton dynasty.

It will take  much more than media generated outrage to upset these voters. iiii

Undeniably true. But that doesn't automatically translate into votes for Trump. Absolutely the American public is crying out for a candidate who will stick it to the establishment and give working men and women a voice. But a narcissistic mysogynistic entitled billionaire who made his fortune by trampling all over the very people he says now he is standing up for - is not that candidate. In fact he is pretty much the epitomy of the exploitative ecomomic elite that your majority is railing against.

Yeah Gandalf, I'm as pissed off by the whole US political scene as you are and I deplore the levels of degradation and vileness they have sunk to. All of them - the candidates, the media which knows no bounds in its depraved language & behaviour.

But it comes down to a choice between a known corruption path with the Clinton's or a chance for a change of direction. It's up to the people and I pray they make the right choice.
