Whitlam handed down three surplus Budgets, paid off the balance of the WWII debt.

Unforgiven is a defeatist -

types like him  were shot in WW2.

Not by Bobby's ilk; lip service patriots.

I always have great ideas that could save Australia. e.g.

(1) building aluminium cars could have saved our car industry
& our aluminium industry.

(2) Research into safe Thorium reactors could give us & the world
unlimited safe energy.
We have the Thorium & the scientists to do it &
the world would be lining up to pay us $billions to have OUR technology.

We have just had a bad run of leaders with no great ideas - no vision.
One day a good leader will be elected & save us.
You have to live in hope - not be a defeatist.

Menzies got us out of computing after WWII, redirected the CSIRO to crap research.

Liberals are holding us back from greatness!

Menzies believed no innovation could outshine the stump-jump plow.

Our country was great until our politicians literally sold her out.

We let them. It's no use blaming our representatives - they represent us. We can't be fagged, like the Americans couldn't be fagged until November 2016.

But the West is turning. Trump is either a final flare-up before it all sinks or he is a turning. If the latter, the whole Western world is turning. Not BECAUSE of Trump but because the energy he harnessed. It's either a transformative energy or a final flash in the pan before it all burns out and the primitives return, after a couple of short centuries of civilisation.

nice thoughts, but keep in mind Trump harnessed not energy but frustrated stupid people. You could 'beam them out' to the moon and the US economy would scarcely ski[p a beat.

That is Hillary talking -missing it by a miles. If you think that then you are lost in the past, in silly propaganda. Trump won because people could no longer stomach just this kind of condescending frakken idiocy.

America - any country - is NOT just an 'economy'.

In a real, practical sense Trump is far, far more revolutionary than Sanders. Sanders was 19th century disruption. Trump is disruption NOW.

The only chance Australia had for greatness and true independence in the past was the 1972-75 era under Gough Whitlam where Australia, for the first time ever, started to express a political stance and foreign policy that was independent of USA and UK.

Sadly, Uncle Sam didn't like it and financed a political coup against Whitlam and reintroduced Liberal puppet governments.
Whitlam nearly bankrupted the country and was a weak leader, foreign policy was pathetic. The Australian people voted him out.

ACtually, they crushed him.
