The 'Jimmy Carter Effect' - A warning?

About as ironic as it can get - A warning to the American people from 2008 about repeating the 'Jimmy Carter effect'...

The Jimmy Carter effect? – Referring to the peoples’ blind faith in a nationally unknown candidate with no real experience in the ways of Washington who represented a fresh start and who was not of the beltway.

Jimmy Carter was elected with 50.1% of the vote, but a clear majority of Electoral votes. His handling of the economy resulted in a 40% increase in prices over three years, the prime rate moving from 6.75% to 21.5%, and mortgage rates of 17.5%.

Of course, back in 2008 the author, (Ken Moyes), was warning Americans about Barack Obama's dramatic entry onto the presidential stage from 'out of the mist' as opposed to 'from on high' (the usual metaphorical place of origin).

So fast-forward to 2017 and (if Moyes’ argument is accepted) the American people have once again evoked the ‘Jimmy Carter Effect’ in electing a man from ‘out of the mist’ although this time with significantly less than 50% of the vote and in circumstances that require something like a toxic fusion of the ‘Jimmy Carter effect’ with the ‘Dunning-Kruger effect’.

That is an inappropriate and invalid comparison imo.

e.g.
Jimmy Carter was a well established American career politician, when he ran for office as president.

A fairer comparison of 'types', imo, would be with administration of Ronald Reagan [i.e. the B grade Hollywood actor].

n.b.
Ronald Reagan was mercilessly lampooned by many political pundits of the time, while he was running for office.

And yet history will record that, today, in the hearts of the American people, Ronald Reagan is one of the most well regarded presidents of recent times!
