A few weeks ago, it was a bit of fun to suggest that Trump might be removed from office but now, just a couple weeks into his administration, questions are being raised not just about his suitability for the job, but his mental fitness to hold the office.
Right from day one, we have witnessed the unedifying spectacle of Trump proclaiming his Inauguration as the 'biggest in history', despite proof that it was in fact, the lowest attendance in twenty years. That of course, introduced the new phrase 'alternative facts', which shocked the nation and the world and embarrassed Americans from coast-to-coast. But nothing could quite prepare the people for Trump insider Conway claiming that the Bowling Green Massacre had not been reported by the media when there was in fact, no such massacre or any loss of life at all. Suddenly, the quirkiness of the Trump team started to look less like incompetence and more like delusional and unbalanced behaviour.
Donald Trumps abusive phone call to Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull raised more than a few eyebrows as once again, the new President lowered the reputation of the United States across the globe. But who would have predicted Monday's astonishing claim that his current pet hate - the media - had for some years deliberately NOT reported terrorist massacres for some unstated 'hidden agenda'. He then listed these attacks, including the Nice assaults, the Paris attacks and even Australia's Lindt Cafe hostage crisis. As everyone who was alive during that time will testify, these events garnished massive media coverage worldwide. No one could even possibly be unaware that they had occurred. Except Donald Trump.
Yes, Donald Trump thought that these events were 'hidden' from the public. Even his later 'correction' that they were simply 'under-reported' remains a gross delusion.
So now it seems we don't just have an inexperienced or openly hostile President. We have a Chief Elected Official of the USA subject to very obvious signs of paranoid delusions and when matched with his rather obvious Narcissistic Personality Disorder, a clearly dangerous and highly unstable man.
Removing him from office is deliberately difficult to limit the spectre of mere political retribution, but even his Republican colleagues are now openly questioning Trump's, suitability for the job. It is now only a matter of time before either the 25th amendment or Impeachment removes him from the seat of power that he is so clearly and obviously unqualified to hold.
Most Americans - including those embarrassed folks who voted for him - will breathe a sigh of relief, as will the rest of the world. All except Vladimir Putin of course.
