Let me dumb it down for you, dumb-dumb. If you lower the rebate, private health insurers will have no choice other than to increase fees because contrary to your erroneous beliefs, medical care costs a lot of money. So when the fees for private health care rise, many who can only just afford it will be forced back onto the public health system, putting further pressure on it. This will also lead to a decrease in the level of healthcare for patients as they endure longer wait times.

Better idea dummy is shut down the Private Health Insurance scam and put the money into medicare they could expand medicare to cover dental as well and still have money left over!

Umm, it's $5.6 billion in welfare payments that are going to people who do not qualify for it.

Rubbish. They do qualify for it. If they don't qualify for it, why is the legislation even necessary?

If the government really wanted to pursue savings, they could cut parliamentary pensions to those who are working. Double dipping is not in their vocabulary for people like that overpaid oaf, Hockey - $300K pension AND a salary. That's insane!

So you have no problem with people receiving taxpayer-funded benefits when they do not qualify for them and should not be receiving them?

Oh you poor misguided fool. You really have no idea how easy it is to dupe the system, do you?

Which system? The corporate tax system where $30 billion a year of tax savings can be found without even breaking a sweat? That system?

How many billions does the government lose each year because of Swan tripling the tax-free threshold?

You're really not the sharpest tool in the shed when you post crap like that. Do you even know how Medicare works?

With the amount of money the Federal Budget spends on the PHI rebate, we could fund $300 of basic dental care a year for every person in the country. Medicare Dental is affordable.

None. After accounting for inflation, the tax free threshold has the same value it had in 1983.

How many billions does the government lose each year because of Costello cutting taxes on the rich and cutting the CGT?

Great, so it's cheaper and the waiting times blow out even further. I used to live in Newcastle and to see a dentist in the public system entailed waiting 4-6 months. That's how far out in advance the dentists were booked out. That's before your magical plan. Imagine how long the waiting time would be under your plan.

I don't give a fig about private health insurers. Take all the money out of private health and put it into the public system and everyone would be better off.
It's up to the insurers to make themselves competitive, not the govt. Premiums have gone up at far higher levels than cpi for years, and that's with rebates. Perhaps if they stopping paying for stupid things like sunnies, gym and joggers, and concentrated on real health matters,  they can cut their premiums. Instead they're using tax payer dollars to come up with gimmicks that still fail the policy holder if they get really sick. Most of the policies out there are little more than ambulance cover, and even then you're out of pocket.

So if that's true, why didn't Swan do anything about it? He had ample time and opportunity. It's not like he couldn't have passed any legislation he wanted to.

That's the kind of mentality I'd expect from a Greeny like Lee Rhiannon. Idiocy in the extreme.

that's because there is no dental medicare ... introduce a dental system and EVERY dentist would be able to access it, not just the one or two in each city currently providing public dental  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

There's about 20 private dental clinics in and around Newcastle. Not one or two. And the one I used to go to employed about a dozen dentists. Not one or two.

People seem to be getting ancillaries mixed up with Hospital insurance John.  people can have all the dental treatment they like under the ancillaries part of their plan and get the pleasure of a minute part of it back!

I am thinking of dropping my cover and just keeping the ancillaries - although the funds are gradually decreasing the benefits they pay there as well.
