WASHINGTON — Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee found no evidence during a monthslong investigation that the Trump campaign aided Russia’s election meddling, the lawmakers concluded in a 250-page report released on Friday that assails President Trump’s political rivals and criticizes the F.B.I. and the intelligence community for their responses to Moscow’s interference.

But in a dissenting document, Democrats on the committee accused the Republicans of prematurely closing the investigation out of a desire to protect Mr. Trump and asserted that eagerness by Trump campaign associates to accept offers of Russian assistance suggest “a consciousness of wrongfulness, if not illegality.”

The strikingly divergent conclusions closed a chapter for a congressional committee that, while charged with oversight of American spy agencies, has fractured into warring factions that often seemed to see the advancement of political agendas as their primary mission.

In the charged political climate that has engulfed Washington, the report — the first out of several government investigations into Russia’s interference — immediately served as a useful political tool for Mr. Trump and his allies. The president seized on the Republicans’ findings, extolling the conclusions on Twitter and calling the inquiries “A total Witch Hunt!”

The Deep State hatched a plot to destroy Donald Trump.

Many in the media and the left are hoping it succeeds.

But Barack Obama held one closed door meeting that could be the Deep State’s downfall.

In his Congressional testimony, James Comey claimed he only met in person with Barack Obama twice – once to say goodbye in 2016 and another time to discuss law enforcement policy in 2015.

Comey was shading the truth.

He met with Obama far more often than once.

In fact, Comey met in the Oval Office with Obama, then National Security Advisor Susan Rice, and Vice President Joe Biden on January 5th, 2017.

In this meeting, Rice claimed Obama stated he wanted the Russia investigation conducted “by the book.”

This meeting took place around the time Trump was briefed on the existence of the golden showers dossier.

Now the Daily Caller News Foundation and watchdog group Judicial Watch have filed suit to obtain documents about the total number of times Comey met with Obama and the substance of their meetings.

The Daily Caller reports:

“THE DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION AND THE WATCHDOG GROUP JUDICIAL WATCH WILL FILE A LAWSUIT IN FEDERAL COURT WEDNESDAY SEEKING RECORDS TO DETERMINE THE ACTUAL NUMBER OF TIMES AND REASONS FORMER FBI DIRECTOR JAMES COMEY MET WITH THEN-PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA…

… SUSAN RICE, OBAMA’S NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER, RECORDED THE MEETING IN AN EMAIL AROUND 12 P.M ON INAUGURATION DAY. SHE ADDRESSED THE EMAIL TO HERSELF.

“PRESIDENT OBAMA HAD A BRIEF FOLLOW-ON CONVERSATION WITH FBI DIRECTOR COMEY AND DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL SALLY YATES IN THE OVAL OFFICE,” RICE STATED.

IN A FEB. 8, 2017, LETTER TO RICE, GRASSLEY AND GRAHAM WROTE, “IT STRIKES US AS ODD THAT, AMONG YOUR ACTIVITIES IN THE FINAL MOMENTS ON THE FINAL DAY OF THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION, YOU WOULD FEEL THE NEED TO SEND YOURSELF SUCH AN UNUSUAL EMAIL PURPORTING TO DOCUMENT A CONVERSATION INVOLVING PRESIDENT OBAMA AND HIS INTERACTIONS WITH THE FBI REGARDING THE TRUMP/RUSSIA INVESTIGATION.”

BIDEN AND YATES JOINED RICE AND OBAMA IN THE MEETING.

BY FAILING TO INFORM THE CONGRESS ABOUT THE JAN. 5 MEETING, COMEY MAY HAVE DELIBERATELY MISLED CONGRESS ABOUT HIS INTERACTIONS WITH THE FORMER PRESIDENT.”

Obama’s “by the book” line looks more like a “cover your butt” statement than a directive.

Was the dossier discussed in these meetings?

Trump and his supporters believe Comey only briefed Trump on the dossier as an effort to blackmail him.

Was any of this talked about in the meeting with Obama?

Answers to these questions could cripple the Deep State.

The Republican-led House Intelligence Committee released a much-anticipated report on Russian interference in the 2016 election that accused former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper of orchestrating the release of an anti-Trump research report and providing “inconsistent testimony” about his contact with the media.

Clapper allegedly changed his story about talking to reporters about an opposition research dossier on Donald Trump, who was President-elect at the time.

The former intelligence head, who now is an analyst at CNN, first said he didn’t speak with journalists about a secret intelligence assessment containing the information. He later admitted he discussed the dossier with CNN reporter Jake Tapper and possibly others, the House report said.

Clapper "flatly denied" during a July 2017 interview with the committee "discuss[ing] the dossier [compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele] or any other intelligence related to Russia hacking of the 2016 election with journalists."

Clapper later in the same interview "acknowledged discussing the 'dossier with CNN journalist Jake Tapper,' and admitted that he might have spoken with other journalists about the same topic," the report said.

CNN used Clapper’s leak as the source for a Jan. 10, 2017, article that said Trump and President Barack Obama had been briefed on the details of the anti-Trump dossier.

Before Clapper’s leak, the dossier had circulated among government officials and reporters but was never published because its claims couldn't be verified. Clapper’s leak about the briefing gave CNN the news hook to report on the dossier. BuzzFeed News subsequently published the full dossier.

"The Committee assesses that leaks to CNN about the dossier were especially significant, since CNN's report 'that two page synopsis of the report was given to President Obama and Trump' was the proximate cause of BuzzFeed News' decision to publish the dossier for the first time just a few hours later," the report said.

The investigation found no evidence of collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign. The report is the result of interviews with 73 witnesses, nine hearings and briefings, and a review of 307,900 documents

Committee Democrats opposed the report’s conclusion, saying that the committee didn’t interview enough witnesses or gather enough supporting evidence.

House Democrats released their own report Friday to rebut the Republicans’ findings. They admitted that Clapper discussed the dossier with Tapper but said his role as director empowered him to speak to the media.
