The thing that puzzles me is the "insanity" defense.

What was it that this vulnerable woman was exposed to with enough regularity to cause her to form such vehement hatred?

I mean, we know Man Monis, another mentally ill person, was exposed to for him to build such hatred. And we categorically condemn it.

Are we condemning what caused this mentally ill woman to form such a strong prejudice against Muslims?

Are we even thinking about it?
