The problem is not contributing to the coalition fighting terrorism in the ME; fighting them there is better than fighting them on the streets of Sydney or Melbourne. Do you expect others to fight for you?

The problem is softcock pc politicians who want to be loved by the electorate. Tony Blair, Kevin Rudd, Obama, etc etc They are the cause of this.

We need to lower the set point of what moves a muslim from a watch list to behind bars, or deported.

We have Hizbut Tahrir (which is banned in many countries) stoking the fires but always pulling up just short of violence.

You're Muslim, you're not like them, don't mix with westerners, live by sharia and hope for a caliphate

I had doubts when 'we' went into Afghanistan.. when the bombing started, I said it was shameful that one of the richest nations on the planet was bombing the sh1t out of one of the poorest... didn't stop me trying to get there....... Aquinas said it - it is not the duty of a soldier to consider the justness of going to war (jus ad bellum), that is the politician's job - it is the duty of the soldier to ensure justness and right IN war so far as possible (jus IN bellum)....... not so easy to do when your 'enemy' is a bunch of locals who are stirred up to defend home and hearth from your presence there. This will be causing a hell of a lot of problems for Diggers in the future, and already has lead to some deaths, you mark my words.

What a shame that the odious Oldfield had to be the one with the hands on the clock correct there.... good thing he is not alone.

Helping Afghanistan to rid itself of the Taliban not such a bad ideal, but we now now that Pakistan maintains the Taliban and in reality, a sizeable chunk of the Afghan population are perfectly OK with Taliban.

Yes - all shades are grey... fifty or so shades anyway.... Pakistan is a major problem, but we fiddle around the edges with it. Even the raid to clobber Osama had to go in 'under the wire' since the 'loyalties' are so diverse and divided there.

Exactly my sentiments and the sentiments of millions of Britishers and Australians.

All of those people who are on security Watch Lists in the UK and Australia should be summarily deported en masse back to their parent's or grandparent's homeland ... and yes of COURSE they can read, write, and speak the language of the country they're deported to.

Western governments know perfectly well what is the only sensible recourse to be done after a staggering 15 years of playing policeman in Afghanistan : withdraw.

Some talk about the legality of such things - what's illegal about dropping them off at midnight drear by black helicopter ride in some dark place in Sandland, and leaving them to fend for themselves? There ya go, Mohamad - home again and free to do your thing among your own kind! Once they're offshore - no longer a problem of legality or otherwise.....

I wonder how many would survive the suspicions of their new neighbours?
