Could you imagine what it would take to keep the lid on such a huge conspiracy of fabricating multiple terror plots and fitting up suspects.

Yes.

It would take a very corrupt, criminal government.

And, guess what - we have one of those right now.

you're either with us or
you're with the terrorists.

Greggy - the vote is 13 to 7 - how did you vote?

Alleged terror conspiracy suspects in custody

The four men arrested for their alleged role in a terrorist conspiracy to bring down a plane in Australia can be detained for up to a week while investigators comb through evidence, a magistrate has ruled.

The men, arrested by the NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team on the weekend, are in custody pending ongoing inquiries, the Australian Federal Police said in a statement on Sunday night.

There are conflicting reports on the alleged device involved in the plot.

The Australian reported the so-called 'non-traditional' device would have used poisonous gas to kill passengers and crew, and bring down the plane.

But the Daily Telegraph suggests the men were planning to use a crude homemade bomb - disguised as a kitchen mincer.

A magistrate has ruled police can hold the men for an 'additional period of detention' under the Crimes Act while investigations continue.

'This recognises that terrorism investigations are inherently complex and that there can be legitimate reasons for extended periods of detention for suspects in such matters,' the AFP statement said.

The men were arrested as NSW and AFP Police officers swooped on five properties in the Sydney suburbs of Surry Hills, Lakemba, Wiley Park and Punchbowl on Saturday afternoon.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said airport security measures had been increased and reassured the public of their safety.

'The tight co-operation and collaboration between our intelligence and security agencies is the key to keeping Australians safe from terrorism,' he said.

A number of 'items of interest' were seized and searches at four of the properties continued on Sunday, with AFP Commissioner Andrew Colvin suggesting they may take 'many more days'.

The plan involved an improvised device and was Islamist-inspired, he added.

'We've taken this threat very seriously,' Mr Colvin said.

'You should infer that we think this was credible and there was an intention, and there was quite possibly a capability as well.'

Mr Colvin expressed confidence Australia's airport security protocols would have prevented the plans coming to fruition.

Despite this, travellers were warned to expect delays and increased scrutiny at all Australian departure points after security measures were 'intensified'.

'Some of that will be visible, some of it will not be visible, but it will take more time,' Mr Turnbull said.

The plot was the 13th significant conspiracy to be foiled by Australian authorities since the country's terror threat level was raised to 'probable' in 2014.

Dr John Coyne, who heads the Australian Strategic Policy Institute's Border Security Program, called it the most 'troubling'.

'It involves a much more co-ordinated group, on face value,' he told AAP.

'They had that level of planning and they obviously had some expectation of achieving success, which indicates they'd identified a vulnerability themselves.'

Mr Colvin said he had no reason to believe the integrity of airport security had been compromised.

Dr Coyne agreed current provisions would have thwarted the plot had it gained momentum. He said since the September 11 attacks in 2001, terror incidents had shifted to regionally-focused incidents - such as the Bali bombings - and then to a domestic lone-wolf trend.

'One data point doesn't make a pattern, but we're seeing a new chapter arising or a return chapter almost,' he said.

'This is much more planned and deliberate, if the allegations are correct.'

Justice Minister Michael Keenan said 70 people had been charged as a result of 31 terror operations since 2014.

State and federal police agreed Saturday afternoon was the right time to act based on risk assessments, NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said.

'The reality is with terrorism, you can't wait until you put the whole puzzle together,' he said.

'You have to go early because if you get it wrong, the consequences are severe.'

No details have been released about the arrested men, who are yet to be charged.

The Australian has been told the men were allegedly constructing a “non-traditional’’ device, one that would kill the occupants of the plane with poisonous gas.

Multiple sources have told The Australian the four, who were related by blood and marriage, were constructing an explosive device that could have emitted a toxic, sulphur-based gas that would have killed or immobilised everyone on the aircraft.

It is understood the device was in the final stages of readiness, prompting police to swoop.

The Australian has been told the four men in custody were related: two fathers and two sons, their families joined by marriage.

The Australian has been told the suspected cell was in contact with Islamic State terrorists inside Syria and that contact was “crucial’’ in the development of the group’s plan.

It is understood Australian authorities found out about the group after authorities received intelligence from a foreign security service.

Police believe the cell lacked the capability or the know-how to build such a sophisticated device by itself and it was guided, directed and encouraged by Islamic State militants directly.

Nothing to do with islam, a terrorist p[lot base purely on independent thought. That is why it is impossible to prevent the planning of terrorist attacks, not one person involved can be found to be part of a single organisation or group.

Nothing to be done but hope none of these individuals slip through the system and get one of these attacks to fruition.

This is why we need to arrest all of their associates.

They have family links to each other and links to previous plots and established networks.

Yeah, they are way over-represented in prisons and way-way over-represented in Supermax.
If the Muslim population at large would be paralleled, there would be NO Muslim in Supermax. But there are 32.

Remember moth is the main apologist for these rapists and murderers, there is only 32 of them, they are good people, they will be out of supermax soon enough and moth will be over-joyed that they are free.

Out of a population of 5 million non-muslims they produce a total of 4 people so dangerous as they need a special prison to hold them. Four too many for most people

Out of a population of just over 260 000 there are 32 muslims (and increasing every year) so dangerous that they need to be in a special prison for extremely dangerous prisoners

And moth will apologist fro every single one of them filthy sand monkeys.

Ha!  Aussie enforcement/security knew NOTHING about these alleged plotters until mid last week when they were notified by some overseas mob there might be naughtiness afoot.

Sounds very shallow in depth of investigation....hence no charge...and elongated detention hoping they find some smoking gun.

Lawyers for alleged plotters advice is simple....shut the ferk up, and let's see what Plod comes up with.
