Buying overseas , and I'm guilty of it as well is putting downward pressure on wage growth in this country .

A libtards wet dream so fukem buy local

The problem is you can't buy local product anymore because Gerry and co put them out of business long ago Sad

And it doesn't matter whether it's a cheap nickel and dime item or expensive boutique item these import junky shop keepers bringing in container loads of imported junk just and turn their nose up at the local talent so they can get their 50% margins !! The punters buying off ebay are now beating them at their own game and rightfully so Wink

Just heard today Amazon has scoped out a suitable warehouse in Melbourne. Now watch all of the other import junkies crap themselves. Feel the fear Gerry and co ! That's how all of the Aussie manufacturers felt when you sold them out to the foreign competition whilst preserving your own greedy profit margins !

Finally it's the end game for the greedy Bricks and Mortar stores !

I have never seen anyone get as much enjoyment out of foreign companies coming to this country and destroying Australian business as you do.

You are one fkked up little unit.

Who were the punters buying from when old Gerry and co went over to asia to seek out the bargain basement suppliers which subsequently put a lot of local manufacturers out of business when he stopped buying from them ? The internet and e-commerce wasn't around then !! Get your head out of the sand dickhead. What goes around comes around Wink

Bullshit. Answer the question moreon.

Who were the punters buying from when local manufacturers died trying to dance to Gerry and co's tune of a race to the bottom ?  This was way before the internet and online sales !!

Now Amazon is going to do to Gerry and co what he did to so many local manufacturers !! It's karma Wink Get over it.

Australian businesses are destroying themselves.

High prices, coupled with second-rate service, are driving away their customers.

Look at books, for example.

I can get in my car and go to my local Dymocks, wait 5 or 10 minutes for someone to serve me, and then pay $30 for a book.

Or, I can go online to bookdepository.com, find the exact same book for up to half price, and have it delivered to me for free.

Supporting local business is all well and good, but If you can get the same thing, for a lot cheaper, delivered to your door, why wouldn't you support a foreign company that will provide that service?

I don't mind paying the Australian premium.

I hate people being unemployed, so if it costs more to keep them off the dole, no biggie to me.

Intuitively it sounds like a sound and noble gesture. In reality it is actually detrimental. Disposable income levels are pretty constant in the medium timeframe. By using a higher proportion of disposable income on a single vendor it reduces the amount that can be spent on the remainder. It benefits the targeted vendor but only at the expense of all others, effectively robbing Peter to pay Paul.

The situation is difficult but can only be turned around by growing productivity.

Loss of market share, zero wages growth, stagnant GDP growth and an economy that refuses to inflate or all symptomatic of declining total factor productivity.

Wages growth is tied to productivity. You're confusing productivity with production. They're not the same thing.

It seems that way but Ol' Gerry had his hand forced by falling total factor productivity.

It is a real concern that capital productivity has been on the nose for nearly two decades. Positive growth in labour productivity amply demonstrates that in general, local firms are not shy with investment. Most of the day's ills have their roots in this piss poor performance.

Rubbish rubbish rubbish !!

Gerry adds no value to anything yet commands the lions share of the retail price whilst the local manufacturer who adds nearly all of the value was being squeezed dry. This was never going to be sustainable !!

The chinaman in china couldn't give a sh.t about Gerry and his inefficient bricks and mortar store chain which is why the chinese will sell to anyone. The days of the manufacturer and shop keeper supply chain are long gone. No local manufacturer can hope to compete with the Gerry Harveys taking all of their profits whilst adding no value and taking minimal risk !

I have avoided by cheap chinese sh1t my whole adult life and quite successfully. Gerry sell cheap chinese sh1t to people like you because that is what you buy and that is why Australian manufacturing went under. Not because of Gerry but because that is what you wanted.

If I can avoid buy cheap chinese sh1t with the limited selection available to me, then you have not excuse other than that is what always want when you buy stuff; cheap and nasty.

You could have always bought non-chinese stuff at anytime you wanted, you chose not to.
