WATCH: Ex-Iraq War guard bashes Sydney woman after racial abuse

Seven News has obtained footage of the disturbing moment a woman from Mosman in Sydney was attacked while walking her dog.

The 29-year-old was racially abused by a former Iraq War security guard before his tirade turned physical.

The victim, Jing Song, filmed the attack with her phone as the man hit her again and again for no reason.

"Get out of my face," the man can be heard shouting.

"You are punching a woman!", she screams.

"Why? Help!"

The man accused of attacking her is Steven Burke, whose brutal bashing left the woman with multiple facial fractures.

Burke denied the assault to police but later in court her admitted to assaulting a complete stranger.

They crossed paths at 11pm while walking their dogs on Glover Street in Mosman.

"What did you say about me going back to Asia? About going back to China?", the woman can be heard saying.

"F***ing Asians, go back to your country with your dogs, did you say that?", an investigator asks him after his arrest.

Burke told police he was drunk, having knocked back a litre of Jack Daniels in four hours.

After the attack last October, Burke has been sentenced by a magistrate to nine months behind bars - a sentence he is appealing against for its "severity".

He's appealing 9 months for severity for breaking a woman's face in several places because she was Asian?

I said IF, john.... IF .... there's no mention of his background.  Personally I would be loath to hire some private bucko in a war zone who has no background in military training... too bloody dangerous to everyone including himself.... so I suspect there may be something not mentioned - perhaps Army Reserve..... although an ex 4 RAR officer I know runs a security firm and does firearms courses in it.... I would hope his judgement was better than this clown....

If you watched that rather shallow show, Who Dares Wins, which showed a genuine ex SAS cadre (to whom I apologise for the way I've expressed this) take in a group of civilians, and put them through their paces - the most common thing is that no matter how fit they think they are (at that basic level of physical fitness) they enter a whole new realm once they actually have to do the Fan Dance run and such.  Same applies to all other facets of training... including firearms and fire discipline... and personal discipline is an absolute...
