Honour your police force
Oct 18th, 2017 at 9:45am

With whatever faults there may be, they stand between you and chaos and evil.

When a cop stops you and hands you a ticket, give him a smile and thank him for the job he's doing.

Those people who use every opportunity to denigrate police forces in democracies around the world are no friends of peaceful and democratic societies.

Know the enemies of a civil society by their public behaviour, by their fraudulent claim to be liberal-progressive, by their propensity to lie and, above all, by their attachment to authoritarianism.

I only use the opportunities presented by people in the police force that denigrate themselves.

Terry Lewis? Roger Rogerson etc.

I agree vast majority of police do a professional, excellent job of serving the public. But there is always the possibility of corruption and we should never stray from that.

I like what they're doing here in Perth.

"WA drivers could lose up to seven demerit points or cop a $1200 fine if they are caught driving a vehicle with installed technology used to "outsmart" speed cameras."

Police crackdown on WA drivers 'outsmarting' speed cameras

We should honour the honest service, of the vast majority of police officers who serve.

It is a very, very difficult job.

I generally agree, though I can't help thinking that many people would do a bit more "honouring" if police did a lot less revenue-raising

That statement always puzzles me.

What's wrong with police having revenue?

Indeed, and want to cut down on the revenue raising? Don't speed.

Sure - that 3 km/h over the limit on a freeway is so dangerous, isn't it.

Not my point. I agree, but those are the rules. But then on the other hand, what will the 3 km/h save you on your typical trip?

E.g. going 113km/h vs 110 km/h on the Hume between Sydney and Melbourne is only going to save you
12 minutes.

3km/h?  Really?

And, besides, if you don't want to contribute to the revenue, don't speed. Simples!

They're called speed 'limits' for a reason, you know.

Many countries would be vastly improved if they had a police force as good as ours.

Also if we had no police force our society would implode within 3 months.

It's not that people are trying to save time - the problem is that cars and traffic speeds up and slows down all the time. Pinging people for not noticing a few mm of movement on their speedo is ridiculous.

And if those are "the rules" then I would expect police to follow them 100% or be fined equally to the rest of us.

At alleged 113 km/hr, you would have been detected doing 120ish, and then take away the range of error, arriving at 113.

If you're not capable of controlling your vehicle properly, you shouldn't be on the road.
