What this shows about Trump is that he puts his political faith in the idea that his supporters and some others will not test what he is saying. That works with a lot of people. It like that Lincolnism about fooling some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time. Trump's continued attacks on the news media would be a lot more successful, if he explained how fake news actually works, which is by putting editorial opinion alongside actual news of events. Trouble is most people are unable to separate the two in there own minds, and my guess is the Trump is one of them. That is why he cannot explain himself.

Are you smarter than most people?

Are you smarter than Trump?

Trump's supporters mostly don't recognize his authoritarianism ... those that do are in denial and explain it away ... then there are others who do see it and like what they see ...

What?

The young turks first appeared on the Algore channel and stayed on air with Al Jazeera America until it went off the air. Youtube was the last place to upload their videos for income.

What a group, they name themselves after these people.

Fake News shouldn't fool the weak minded with their politically driven slant on the News without stating everything they broadcast is bias and opinionated.  Sometimes it is really hard to believe they don't employ the writers from The Onion. If NBC or any other so called news source can't follow the guidelines of their licenses they need to lose it. If you require a license to broadcast you do not have freedom of speech and can be taken off the air by the FCC. President Trump is within his Rights to ask if fake news is within their license.

If fake news is an issue then Fox should have lost their licence 20 years ago.

Fake news is good for the economy: that's why it exists?

I like Trump. But I admit this concerns me.

Definitely a loose cannon on the deck of the USS America.

I'm frankly surprised he hasn't been assassinated yet.

He's good for the economy... What kind of retard would get anything out of assassinating him?

Trump is facing the end of his presidency. Manafort is just the first low-hanging fruit, the easy indictments. Now comes the rest of them!

Trump has just about off-sided everyone with his loose lips and his penchant for scribbling thought-bubbles on Facebook and Twitter.

I can't see him winning a second term.

If he owned a dog I think it would by now be snarling at him and lunging from behind furniture to bite him on the leg. Trump's anti-magnetic personality has just about alienated him from both humans and animals.

But!

I hope he gets a Second Term so he can do more stirring of the born-to-rule establishment elite who have been far too complacent for far too long.

Incidentally, didn't Gillard and Rudd also make grumbling noises about limiting the freedom of the press because too many articles and opinion pieces were not sympathetic to their political views?

Amendment I (1791)

Source:
U.S. Constitution
       Quote:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

For about the first 150 years the Court did not find it necessary to define what The Freedom of the Press meant to the lives of every day American Citizens.

That changed......

The following link result is not in any particular chronological order, but each case is unique unto itself, & nested within these cases you may very well find precisely what the President might be alluding to ..... it may go much deeper than you might think....

If you are truly interested in the Freedom of the Press, & other First Amendment implications, then you may find the following a valuable resource in advancing your knowledge:

The Freedom of the Press

I'd be more impressed if I heard you say that Trump was dangerously wrong to threaten the licences of media outlets he doesnt like. I DONT THINK THAT EVEN YOU COULD SHOEHORN THAT INTO 'FREEDOM OF SPEECH'.

Dopey Turkish guy misrepresents what Trump said. BIG NEWS!!!

We have the same debate here about media bias. If the ABC's conduct was seriously and independently challenged, it would be found not to meet its charter obligations to be fair and balanced.

Trump has cut through, again. The media is insanely biased about him. They were like that with Dubya, but (unsurprisingly) pliant and accommodating with the first white Kenyan prez the US had.

LW58 will be scratchin' his head for days tryin' to understand the concept of what you said, because AFAIK, we have no such obligations here in Australia connected to broadcast licensing.

If he would have investigated further like I suggested, he might have read about it.....but understand it.....that's another bag of beans.

Fair & Balanced is so alien to his species!!  Grin Grin Grin

This is what you think is it?
Shall I tell you what will actually happen. It won't please you and I don't expect I will be here to see it, but however.
It's about the people you see. Not the fancy lawyers & the rest, the ordinary people

Assuming his health holds up, they.will re-elect him with a thumping majority.
That's what will really happen.

It wasn't a dopey Turkish guy it was a dopey orange guy - his tweets say it all. It was "Trumps tweets". Nobody else.

Yet every time someone does a study trying to catch the ABC out they walk away scratching their head because they invariably discover a slight bias to the right.

By a large margin the biggest purveyor of fake news in the US is Fox. They have been faking it up on the conservative side for decades but Trump loves them because they are on his side.

Just so.

Noting again, that challenging and revoking are TWO separate but possibly related things.

Nobody wants to revoke a licence or investigate non-compliance with a charter. So there is political pressure reminding the media that they have an obligation: EITHER be fair and balanced OR declare partisanship (IF they are not a publicly funded outfit, that is).

You can be as biased as you like if you are a private outfit as long as you declare it. Declaring balance and then being partisan (Granuiad, ABC, Fairfax) is not honest. Funnily enough,  News Corp's The Australian is the most balanced news and opinion source in this country.  I think it's one of the best newspapers in the world.
