.. The Special Senate election is over....thank God!!
The unofficial (uncertified) vote count shows Jones winning over Moore by about 2% -- 21,000 votes.
By now we all should be well aware that if the vote count were 0.5% or less, according to Alabama Law, there would be an automatic vote recount (paid by the State).
What we are also now starting to hear, is that even if the Certified vote count due by 3 January, 2018 is over this 0.5%, that there may be long & drawn out court battle for a vote recount anyway (paid for by private concerns, not public dollars).
Word is that the money is already coming in, & will probably be enough to fund a recount, challenging the Special Election..
For the record, I don't give a rat's ass that Roy Moore lost the un-lose-able election to Doug Jones.
That's history now....sh!t happens....time to move on to more important issues.
My desire to see Moore win wasn't because I believe in the "man", it was because above all else, I wanted to see a Conservative Republican as Senator of Alabama.
Doug Jones was not that man......period.
That was the big picture item....that was the focus, who it was was immaterial, just as long as it was a Conservative.
Don't kid yourself....keeping the demonrats in a Senate Minority is all important too. Didn't want no RINO either.
So, how would all this talk of recounts play in the US Senate?
Until all this Special Election dust settles, & Doug Jones is seated, there will be a status quo.
Luther J. Strange (R-AL) will stay seated in the US Senate until Doug Jones is seated. He will vote with the Republican majority until then, & maintain the Republican Majority in the US Senate on all crucial votes held in the Senate.
So how does this help the Republicans & hurt the democrats???
Every day that a recount is either being ruled on, debated in Alabama, or taking place, is one day closer to Doug Jones's last day in the US Senate......until seated Jones can't obstruct Trump/Republican legislation(s), he can't vote on any motions, he cant exercise any Senatorial power.....he is a non-entity in the US Senate......until seated in the US Senate chambers.
The battle over a recount could take precious monhts......well past the 3 January, 2018 date for certification......the date of certification will be the starting date....
In November, 2018 the voters in Alabama will again be voting for a US Senator......the exact same seat being discussed here.
There is an extremely high likelihood that after the 2018 election, the next Senator from the Proud State of Alabama won't be Senator Doug Jones, won't be a democrat, & will most probably be a Conservative.
