Yes, that's why they indicate on paper currency.

However, some are trained specifically on currency without being in contact with drugs..........the material used, and ink used gives off a specific scent........which the dogs are trained on.

did you happen to see that doco on Portugal how they decriminalised drugs about 20 years ago....they still have a lot of drug addicts though...so not sure what they call success as instead of going after the druggie its only the pushers they arrest.......

I thi nk fewer deaths is the main thing but seeing the addicts getting their methadone they still looked like drug addicts....sad..

Hi Cods, Portugal decriminalised in 2001. They have the lowest drug related overdose deaths of any European country bar Romania. Rates of HIV have also significantly reduced along with drug related crime. No one expected it to be a magic bullet but as far as harm minimisation goes its been a success. US states which have legalised marijuana are also experiencing lower drug deaths and lower crime rates.

thanks rhino did you see it.. most interesting.... BUT..

they still have a drug problem this is what I dont understand....DEATHS of course they would drop.. and having free methadone dropins it stands to reason.. but if you saw the show you would have seen the women speaking about how she would be dead ... but to look at her.. her lifestyle is no better at least I didnt think so..

sometimes these thing play out to statistics which makes the govt look good makes them look as if they are doing something...

if they ar estill catching drug dealers then they still have a drug problem... Roll Eyes

well thatss how i see it...

I didnt see where they claimed those needing methadone was dropping;.....and I would think that also had a point?....

of course they are still catching drug dealers, drugs are still illegal therefore there is still an illicit market. They should have legalised, not decriminalised, then they would have seen a huge drop in crime, addictions and deaths. However the big drop in drug related OD deaths , HIV and crime related to decriminalisation shows that it works, and they are doing a lot better than Australia with its hard line enforcement which is causing increased drug deaths and crime.
Would we need sniffer dogs if everyone who took a substance knew exactly what was in it?

In the US most if not all paper currency in contaminated with drugs. Australian currency probably wouldn't produce the same levels.........unless of course you're a member of the 'Commancheros' or other such gang.

Dogs have many millions more olfactory glands in their nose than humans and can indicate on drugs wrapped many times in plastic and coated in coffee grounds.....or other such material to try to mask the scent of the drugs........
