The standard argument against capital punishment is that is not a deterrent, but that is not the point. Capital punishment is not a punishment either. It is a matter of removing offenders from society, permanently. Like taking the garbage out, and burying it in landfill. Oh how lacking in compassion!!! Cry

I say the standard argument is that the State may not murder in my name.

I grant you it is cruel    and my heart breaks for this baby....but who are we to say who should live and who should die....

I wouldnt want to be the person with that job..

would you?..

if we all lived in a perfect world....who would be the most perfect?.... I dont seriously think we want that..

as much as the baby did not a thing to deserve this   it is what it is......I cant think of a punishment that people like that should get to be honest.....

do we stoop to their level  will that make this child better????..... an eye for an eye..

I dont think it works like that.

I  would not vote for a return of the death penalty.....

but on posting the op...I find have not the tiniest bit of compassion for this couple   .. if they throw away the key...

deterrent or not... what we are doing isnt working either.....there is no punishment that will ever give some justice... Sad Sad

Cods,
you'd never make a good hangman then.

However - Valkie , Hammer & I would do it for free and
sleep well the same night knowing that society was a better place
and that we'd done our duty for society.

But seeing someone swinging from a lamp post acts as a powerful deterrent.

Hanging is a strong force of dissuasion.

No, it doesn't.

Worldwide studies, over many decades, have shown just the opposite.

Put it back in your pants, Booby.

Love the discussion about compassion.

How much COMPASSION do murderers show to their victims?

How much COMPASSION do paedophiles show for their victims and their families?

How much COMPASSION do rapists show for their victims?

I'm happy to show them the same COMPASSION they show.
While I throw the switch.

They deserve no compassion.

What does 'compassion' have to do with this, Bobby?
