And that article was from August, so the margins are higher now.

It's no surprise what has caused this. The Coles and Woolworths 4c discount dockets have decimated independent operators. There is now no competition so retail margins have gone through the roof.

So basically we are paying more for petrol because of our collective short sighted stupidity.

I used to go to Woolworths for fuel but now go to an independent. The Woolworths near me are higher even with the 4c discount. The independent is consistently 5-6c under Wooly's pre-discount price

I believe that fuel injection would be even harder.
Mechanical injection would require tiny tiny gears and seriously small injectors

Electronic injection would require the smallest electric motor to power the pump and the required EMS would also be near microscopic

Not that it couldn't be done, but it would be really difficult.

Being an engineer
We have a tendency to monitor and graph the most interesting phenomenon.

I have set up a simple spreadsheet to check my cars mileage and performance
With three entries I can
See what mileage I get in four different values
See how my car performed with different types of petrol and oils
(Mobil oil allow my car to run cooler, gets better milage)
(95 fuel gives me better mileage than lower value, but 98 is little different from 95)
See how petrol prices are trending
See what my average usage is
And monitor overall vehicle performance

The data on my boat fuel consumption is particularly interesting.
How much difference a windy day makes is unbelievable.
