Hilarious. I didn't need to post the trailer. Poor old Frank was triggered by the very name of the movie.

No, you didn't have to. You just had to mention that it was about James Baldwin and his ideas.

If you wanted to have a wide perspective rather than ayour current narrow Pavlovian reflexive one, you could look at not just the above chapter but the whole book.
You don't have to change your mind by reading it but at least you would be able to say that you have read more widely on the topic than the stultifying, stupefying received PC/woke orthodoxy crowding your mind.

That would be a refreshing, novel intellectual experience for you and people like you.   So it will never happen. Your blinkered prejudices are dear to you.

What is wrong with you?

You insult my lack of wider learning in your refusal to widely learn?

And i watched a couple of minutes of your youtube. It was all i could bear. You are a severely damaged individual.

Nonetheless, triggered you were and triggered you remain. How dare those uppity tinted folk have a perspective other than yours? They of course, have to be wrong. So very wrong that you refuse to even listen to it. And alas, remain as you are.

You make the mistake that i have not heard your side. I have and i reject it. Utterly. You cannot claim as much.

Is this all part of your self-loathing, Frank? I mean, ultimately. You're too afraid to have your unbelievably narrow world view challenged for fear you will loathe yourself more than you do already?

Best pretend to be superior, eh what?

Being non-white is NOT the royal road to being always right, frightbat.  Tinted people can be wrong when discussing things.
And when two tinted people argue, the resentful and rancorous one after your own heart is not thereby right either.
In fact, rancourous and resentful people like you, regardless of tintedness, are always wrong. You always start from the shitiest, stupidest premise and ladle mindless frightbattery on it.

Railroad Tigers - a Jackie Chan action movie with a little bit of a difference.  Jackie Chan doesn't play the lead.  He is a member of the Railway Tigers, a Resistance group in occupied China during WWII.  In December 1941, Japan expands the occupation of its neighbouring countries to Southeast Asia. The railway from Tianjin to Nanjing in East China became a key military transportation route, heavily guarded by Japanese soldiers. Railroad worker Ma Yuan (Jackie Chan) leads a team of freedom fighters. Using his deep knowledge of the train network, he and his men sabotage it, ambushing Japanese soldiers and stealing supplies to feed the starving Chinese. Although the freedom fighters have no weapons of their own, they employ whatever tools are at hand, including a hammer and shovels, loose railway track planks and diverted trains. The local Chinese call the unlikely heroes the “Railroad Tigers”. The freedom fighters find themselves on the wrong side of the tracks when the Japanese send reinforcements to Shandong. In an act of defiance, Ma Yuan launches his most dangerous mission yet, blowing up a heavily guarded railroad bridge. When the Japanese learn of the crippling plan, which will derail the war effort, the stakes are raised even higher. After many missed opportunities and missed shots, the bridge is blown up by the ragtag Chinese railroad tigers.  The usual load of Kung Fu action sequences and a spectacular train smash at the end.  They have some quite reasonable mockups of Japanese Tanks even if they had overlong barrels and internally are all mixed up.  About a 8 or 9 out of 10.  Well worth watching.

Someone said we could not judge a person's Aboriginality on their skin colour.  Why isn't that applied in the matter of Pascoe?  Tsk, tsk, tsk...   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

M3GAN

This "Child's Play" rip off is less violent than the Chucky franchise. Yet, it is a better movie than the Child's Play original. Allison Williams plays the role of the reluctant guardian, Gemma, to the orphaned Cady (played by Violet McGraw). Gemma is a roboticist who is covertly using her workplaces resources to make a child-like robot. After being given custody of Cady, Gemma is motivated to complete M3GAN when Gemma notices the interaction between Cady and her prototype.

Gemma introduces Cady to her finished prototype and allows Cady to be her primary user. They bring "Megan" home for Cady to bond. From there, Megan is used as a secondary guide to help Cady recover from the trauma of losing her parents. Unfortunately, Megan's instructions of being ordered to prevent Cady from being physically or emotionally harmed has been taken literally. All threats to Cady's well-being are eliminated one way or another. And from there, the sentience of Megan begins to form a more independent objective.

Amie Donald plays the physical form of M3GAN. It will be interesting to see how the development of "Megan" in the sequel comes about as the 12-year-old Amie grows into a 14-year-old teenager. Amie has a dance and gymnastics background. This helped her fulfill the role of the robotic Megan. Although you might see the characteristics of Megan as a little girl wearing a mask and wig for the purpose of the movie, I cannot see how else someone could have portrayed the robot.

For a $12 million production, this movie has so far done very well, raking in nearly $200 million dollars. Overall, you might make comparisons of this movie to "Child's Play" (especially the remake) and whatever other stalker movie is about. Heck, there seem to be a similarity to "The Terminator" scene near the end. But, this movie will probably forge a good career for the three main actors in near future.

A Man Called Otto

A tad on the corny side and a little over-the-top on the tear-jerker scale but I enjoyed it.

Tom Hanks is always good.

The Whale

Watched it tonight and I suppose I was expecting something fantastic given the hype about Brendan Fraser's performance and that he received a really long ovation at one of the screenings.

Perhaps because of that I was a little disappointed.

It was a very good performance by Fraser - don't get me wrong.

If you like a moving drama very much like watching a play then you will love this.

Scream 6

I will spoil the movie for you. The killer(s) are involved in another butthurt revenge plot. If you liked Scream 5, you will be okay with this sequel.

The villains have absolutely no motivation for their killing spree. And if you wanted to revenge kill someone, you would not make a big spectacle about the whole ordeal. That is where the movie insults the audience. It is getting boring. And I have enough motivation to ditch my first 5 movies of this franchise, as this 6th movie has spoiled the whole theme.

Living

Don't miss it.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9051908/
Living is a remake of one of the great existential masterpieces of the 20th century, Kurosawa’s Ikiru (1952), which didn’t need remaking, many will grumble, but once you’ve seen this you’ll be glad that it was. It is as profoundly and deeply felt as the original and as heartbreakingly tender. It asks the same question – what makes a life meaningful? – but this time with Englishness, bowler hats, the sweet trolley at Fortnum’s and Bill Nighy. Really, what more could you want?
...
It’s one of the few films that may actually inspire you to live differently and, perhaps, do something of value before it is too late.

Watched it last night and I agree that it is very good.

A slow burn but that is a key ingredient of the story.

65

This seems like a time-travel movie at first. But, it seems like the storyline is that humans visited Earth 65 million years ago accidentally, through a crash landing. Adam Driver stars as "Mills" -- a pilot from a distant planet with an advanced human race. Mills takes on a job of transporting people to other regions of the universe, as a way of funding his daughter's treatment for some illness.

During a journey, Mills wakes up to his space ship hitting an asteroid field, disabling and splitting up his ship, and having to crash land on Earth... 65 million years ago. Thinking that he is the only survivor, he opts not to ask for a rescue. However, his idea of survival changes when one of the cryogenic chambers happens to have a survivor -- a girl called "Koa". Immediately, a language barrier is established as the two have to communicate as best as they can to make a journey to the other section of their crashed ship (15 km away).

The whole trouble with the planet Earth is the cretaceous period still has dinosaurs. Making their way to the section of the ship with the escape shuttle proves problematic with the carnivorous dinosaurs seemingly endlessly hunting the human prey. Mills has to use his advanced technology to survive the elements. Koa plays a decent support role, trying to get back to her parents, as well as helping Mills as best she could survive.

The chemistry of the two lead actors are quite impressive. Part of the story is Mills' absence for his daughter to suffer to her disease, whilst Mills is traversing the universe. Koa provides the substitute daughter figure of the story.

The visuals of the movie are quite impressive. The dinosaurs do look a bit cartoonish. But the animation of the computer generated imagery are quite strong. The only let down of this movie was that they could have come up with a better ending. I felt that the finality of the movie was a bit rushed.

I have just finished watching the movie. It was a very good performance by Fraser, like you said. Though, the appeal of the movie was the focus of the reluctance of others to help Charlie overcome his food addiction. This neglect helped compound the problems that Charlie was having.

All Quiet on the Western Front

Very good.

Excellent cinematography.

Quite similar to 1917 but this time from the German viewpoint against the French.

The futility of war demonstrated yet again.

Have you watched the original 1930's version of All Quiet on the Western Front? It was well ahead of its time.

I've only seen short clips from that 1930s version. It looks pretty good for its day.

I described the movie as a mix of Gone with the Wind, Saving Private Ryan, and Rebel without a cause.
