Well the

1. Mesosphere is about -90°C

2. The Thermosphere is about +1500°C but can reach up to +2000°C from 90km to about 500km, 410km of +1500°C, that aluminium skin must have been white hot.

The lunar module had a thin aluminium skin and on the outside and some insulation on the inside.

Forget about the Van Allen belt they wouldn't have made it past the thermosphere...LOL..... :D

Reply #5 - Oct 27^th, 2018 at 4:48pm Well I thought I was on to something when I saw the temperatures in the thermosphere can get up to +2000 degrees Celsius of course little did I know that there is hardly any pressure or matter up there which nullifies all the heat. Sorry for the false alarm... ..

The Moon should be populated by now, it would be a great steppingstone for space exploration and just in case earth has a catastrophe like being hit by a big Meteorite or the Muslims take over., we would be safe there, they wouldn't get there for another million years, if that.
Something seems to be retarding civilisation and that something needs to be dealt with before we can move on.

you do realize that the Lunar Module was protected inside the third stage of the Saturn V rocket until the combined Command/Service Modules and third stage were well on their way to the Moon after leaving Earth orbit?

The Lunar Module was then 'extracted' from inside the third stage by the Command/Service modules and the mission continued.

The Moon and Mars would be populated by now if they had atmospheres that we could breathe and
rivers of fresh flowing potable water.

They are extremely hostile environments.
The radiation alone would kill human beings if we were there for a few years.
