As they say, In for a penny, in for a pound". If a mother can kill her child before it is born why be hypocritical about it.

She is not "killing a child".  Children occur when a fetus is born.  Before that, they just fetuses.  Would you condemn a women who suffers are miscarriage?  Well?  That is effectively what an abortion is - a miscarriage.   Miscarriages occur naturally.   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

You live in a fairy land with mystical lights where language has no meaning, except where you use the words, inappropriately, Mort.   Roll Eyes

Miscarriages occur because there is something wrong with either the fetus or mother, an abortion occurs because the mother doesn't want a child. Odd that the person carrying life is called the mother when there will not be a child.

Yet, according to many Christian preachers that is exactly what they want laws against - miscarriages.  They want to prosecute women for terminating their babies if they have a miscarriage.   They are called "mothers" cause that is a description that fits the language in use in America where the Church rules the thinking of many politicians.   Their are more appropriate terms but people like prefer to use the emotionally charged words.  Tsk, tsk.  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Why is Gun Control is so hard to enact?

...

Source:
The Hill
       Quote:
At a vigil for the latest victims of a mass shooting, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, a Republican & a supporter of gun rights, was offering his condolences when the crowd began to chant, “Do something!” It is a desperate mantra being repeated across the country. Do something, anything, to end our continual cycle of boom & bust. Mass shootings are followed by scenes of sorrowful politicians, which are then followed by minimal actions. Worse yet, politicians routinely propose reforms they know will not pass constitutional review, creating the appearance of “doing something” when, in reality, they do little beyond giving cover.

This latest bloodshed has politicians once again pledging action. Many of these politicians opposed the decision of the Supreme Court in 2008 in District of Columbia versus Dick Anthony Heller, establishing that the right to bear arms is an individual right under the Second Amendment. The court has repeatedly reaffirmed that landmark decision. In 2010, the court ruled that this constitutional right applied to the states as it does to the federal government since it is one of those “fundamental rights necessary to our system of ordered liberty.” Just two years ago, the Supreme Court reversed a lower court decision & held that this right is not confined to firearms “in existence at the time of the founding” but to “all instruments that constitute bearable arms” including, in that specific case, stun guns.

Despite these & other rulings by the federal courts, politicians still act as if they are still operating before Heller in which any rational gun control is presumptively constitutional. The legal results are predictable. New York City mayor & Democratic candidate Bill De Blasio complained in the aftermath of the recent shootings, “It feels like we are screaming into a void.” It feels that way because we are, & that void is a space that no longer exists for many measures after Heller. As an individual right, there is a higher showing required from both state & federal governments, a standard that is unlikely to be met in many proposed gun regulations.

For example, many politicians are pledging again to remove all “assault style weapons” such as the AR-15. However, such limits must meet a standard that requires a narrowly tailored law advancing a compelling state interest. While a ban on AR-15s sounds compelling, it breaks down under closer review. The AR-15 & other weapons in its class use an intermediate cartridge that actually is less powerful than that used in a rifle. These weapons are often twice as powerful as a handgun but not nearly as powerful as a rifle. Moreover, guns like the AR-15 are popular because they are modular & allow for different grips & barrels.

A law cannot ban the look of a rifle. It must focus on the inherent power of the weapon, which may prove less compelling for some justices. Such a ban would have to pass muster with Neil Gorsuch & Brett Kavanaugh, the newest members of the Supreme Court. Both justices are viewed as supporting gun rights under Heller, & Kavanaugh wrote a dissent in a 2011 case saying that an assault weapons ban would be unconstitutional.

The road ahead may therefore prove more difficult for gun control. A federal judge in San Diego shot down the California law banning high capacity ammunition magazines with more than 10 rounds. While the ruling could now be reversed by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the decision repeatedly hit on what the court felt was an arbitrary ban given the common use of such magazines. The court noted that the Glock pistol “is designed for, & typically sold with, a 17 round magazine,” as is true of a wide assortment of other such popular weapons. Moreover, banning high capacity magazines will not likely have a transformative effect. It is relatively easy & fast to swap out magazines on a weapon. This & other such cases are currently working their way to the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court is already poised to rule in a critical gun rights case, a decision that will come a decade after its last major decision in the area, with New York State Rifle & Pistol Association versus City of New York. This will once again test the mettle of the Second Amendment right & could result in a substantial blow to an array of laws passed across the country in the wake of Heller.....
Continued

If the Left believes gun control works & guns are the problem, then there is no such thing as gun-control!

You need complete gun bans!

Why would anyone settle for a little mass murder?  I would think they would want to eliminate it all...No?

Every shooting 'event' offers politicians new opportunities to make 'feel good' gun laws...make us safer...by restricting Freedom & Liberty. Banning semi-auto rifles means you have to ban semi-auto-pistols... & then revolvers, & then...& then....& then....& then..............& then All Guns.

After all, why would anyone settle for just a little mass murder, or just a few Mass Shootings

New Concealed Carry Report for 2019:
18.66 million
permit holders despite
16 Constitutional Carry States -
Over
1.4 million
more than last year

Source:
Crime Prevention Research Center
       Quote:
A copy of our
newest report is available here.
Copies of our annual reports from 2014 through 2018
are available here.

Summary

The number of concealed handgun permits has increased for the third year in a row. The figure now stands at over 18.66 million– a 304% increase since 2007.  It’s also an 8% increase over the number of permits we counted a year ago in 2018. Unlike gun ownership surveys that may be affected by people’s unwillingness to answer personal questions, concealed handgun permit data is the only really “hard data” that we have. Sixteen states are missing from the data because people there don’t even need a permit to carry.

Among the findings of our report:

Last year, the number of permit holders continued to grow by about 1.4 million.  Despite expectations that increases in permits were primarily driven by fears of Democratic presidencies, the growth has continued at a similar pace after the November 2016 election.

7.3% of American adults have permits.  Outside of the restrictive states of California and New York, about 8.75% of the adult population has a permit.

In thirteen states, more than 10% of adults have permits, down from just fifteen last year.  Arkansas, Oklahoma, and West Virginia fell below 10%, but they are now all Constitutional Carry states, meaning that people no longer need a permit to carry. South Carolina’s concealed carry rate has now risen to above 10%.

Alabama has the highest concealed carry rate — 26.3%.  Indiana is second with 17.9%, and South Dakota — another Constitutional Carry state — saw its percentage decline to 16.02%.

Four states now have over 1 million permit holders: Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Texas.  Florida is the first state to have over 2 million permits.

Sixteen states have adopted constitutional carry, meaning that a permit is no longer required. Because of these constitutional carry states, the nationwide growth in permits does not paint a full picture of the overall increase in concealed carry. But some residents still choose to obtain permits so that they can carry in other states that have reciprocity agreements.

In 2019, women made up 26.5% of permit holders in the 12 states that provide data by gender. Eight states had data from 2012 to 2019, and permit numbers grew 101% faster for women than for men.

Three states that have detailed race and gender data for at least a decade show remarkably larger increases in permits for minorities compared to whites. In Texas, black females saw a 3.6 times greater percentage increase in permits than white males. North Carolina had black permits increase twice as fast as whites. In Oklahoma, the increase for American Indians was twice the rate for whites and for blacks it was 66% greater than for whites.

From 2012 to 2018, in the four states that provide data by race over that time period, the number of black people with permits increased almost 20% faster than the number of whites with permits.  Asians appear to be the group that has experienced the largest increase in permitted concealed carry, growing 29% faster than whites.

Concealed handgun permit holders are extremely law-abiding.  In Florida and Texas, permit holders are convicted of misdemeanors and felonies at one-sixth of the rate at which police officers are convicted.

18.66 Million
KNOWN Carry Permit Holders, but how many more Americans are actually carrying, legally or not?

Nobody really knows for sure, least of all the government... 25 million? .... 40 million? ... 75 million...150 million?

Now, add that to all the 'recent' new carry permit holders, & those Constitutional Carriers, who have recently bought millions of firearms due to COVID-19, & the facts outweigh the false anti-gun rhetoric...

FACT:
Americans 'obviously' Oppose Gun Bans!

When push comes to shove......it's their Constitutional RIGHT, not yours!!!

Since Constitutional Carry, now in 16 States & counting, where permits are not even required to carry firearms, there is no way that anyone will ever know........maybe that's why 'An Armed Society is a Polite Society' .... US Violent Crime continues to drop like a stone......

Constitutional Carry OK'd in Oklahoma!!!

...

Source:
The National Rifle Association
       Quote:
FAIRFAX, Va.– The National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) welcomes Oklahoma as the newest constitutional carry state. Constitutional carry, now the law in 16 states across the country, allows law-abiding citizens to carry concealed firearms without first getting government permission to do.

The NRA-backed law, which takes effect Friday..........fully recognizes the constitutional right of law-abiding gun owners to carry a firearm openly or concealed without a permit.

"Government exists for the people, not the other way around. This law honors the right of law-abiding Oklahomans to defend themselves and their loved ones without begging for the government’s permission beforehand,"
said Jason Ouimet, executive director, NRA-ILA.
"The NRA fights for law-abiding gun owners because we recognize that our freedoms are fundamental and natural, not government-given."

For nearly 10 years, the NRA has worked closely with the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association to make constitutional carry a reality in Oklahoma.

“After 112 years, constitutional carry returns the fundamental right to self-defense to every law-abiding Oklahoman,” said Don Spencer, president, Oklahoma Second Amendment Association. “By eliminating financial barriers imposed by government permitting schemes, constitutional carry ensures that law-abiding, but economically disadvantaged Oklahomans can always protect themselves in times of crisis.”

H.B. 2597 passed both chambers with broad bi-partisan support (House vote 70-30 , Senate vote 40-6).

This law does not change prohibited person laws or any law governing the misuse of a firearm, prohibited places where a firearm cannot be carried, or when force may be used in defense of self or others.

Sixteen States – Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, Wyoming, New Hampshire, North Dakota, and Kentucky – allow law-abiding individuals to carry a concealed handgun without a government-issued permit.
(Montana allows Permitless Carry for all areas outside city limits – 99.4% of the state.)

...#16    ...

...

Again, the American People have spoken......they cherish their Second Amendment.....& they deplore any & all attempts to control their Constitutional Rights to Keep & Bear Firearms.

No longer will the people of Oklahoma, along with the other 15 Constitutional Carry States, the People of Oklahoma will no longer need to go hat in hand & beg any government for a permit to Keep & Bear Arms to protect & defend themselves, their loved ones, their friends, & their property!!

Other States have legislation pending to make them Constitutional Carry too! ...

Even amid this COVID-19 Pandemic, the American People know beyond question that
The Second Amendment is their Carry Permit

Trump Administration Prepares To Abolish
One Of America’s Biggest Gun-Free Zones

Source:
Daily Caller
     Quote:
On April 13, the Trump Administration
published a proposed rule
to end a ban on the possession of firearms in water resource development projects administered by the Army Corps of Engineers (ACE).

These areas comprise one of the largest networks of outdoor recreation sites in America, encompassing more than 400 lake and river projects in 43 states. Activities that occur on these sites include hiking, boating, fishing, camping, hunting, and geo-caching.

Currently,
regulations pertaining to these areas
authorize the use and possession of firearms only for specified purposes, including hunting or at designated shooting ranges, or with written permission from the District Commander who has jurisdiction over the area in question.

The otherwise lawful possession of firearms, including for self-defense, is effectively banned.

Not only does this policy infringe the Second Amendment rights of visitors to these areas, as has been recognized by at least one federal court, it is at odds with policies governing firearms that apply on other types of federal recreational lands.

The National Park Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the Bureau of Reclamation, and the U.S. Forest Service all recognize a right to possess firearms on lands under their authority, consistent with the laws of the states in which those lands are located.

Meanwhile, federal statutory law continues to prohibit the possession of firearms in “federal facilities” (i.e., buildings where federal employees regularly perform their officials duties), a restriction that would not be changed by the pending rulemaking.

As proposed, the rule would allow visitors to possess and transport firearms on ACE water resource development project lands and waters, provided they are not prohibited by law from possessing firearms and the possession or transportation is otherwise in compliance with applicable laws.

This commonsense provision would abolish an existing gun-free zone on 12 million acres of public lands and waters nationwide, including 55,390 miles of shoreline, 7,856 miles of trails, 92,588 campsites, and 3,754 boat ramps.

Comments may be filed in support of the rule at Regulations.gov.  Submissions are due by June 12, 2020.

As Americans look forward to re-engaging in their favorite outdoor pastimes at the end of the state lockdowns currently in effect because of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Trump administration is at work to ensure they will do so with their Second Amendment rights fully intact.

In America, a US Citizen, unless they are a diagnosed mentally ill, or are a previously convicted felon, a US Citizen has the Inalienable Right to Keep & Bear Arms to be used for, among other lawful purposes, the Inalienable Right to Keep & Bear Arms to be used specifically for self-defense in defending themselves, their loved ones, their friends, as well as their property & possessions.

Well done Mr. President......Well Done -- another promise kept!

Another 'Gun Free Zone' soon to bite the dust!

I sincerely hope this proposal will eventually have the force of law, as do all issued  Executive Orders when signed by the US President.

Funny thing, Western Australian cops killed a bloke yesterday, what did they use? guns - and complete silence about that from you bed wetters.

They only had to throw a net over him, or zap him for a second time with a taser

Cops have shot and killed two knife wielders in a one week, one in QLD and one in WA
