Police officer takes seven shots to 'destroy' injured kangaroo in Whyalla

A South Australian police officer who took seven shots to put down an injured kangaroo has come under attack on social media.

SA Police said the officer was called to Stuart High School in Whyalla on Wednesday, after being contacted by a wildlife rescue group that a kangaroo had a broken leg.

A video of the ordeal was posted on Facebook by Rob Oswald, which on Thursday morning had been viewed almost 440,000 times and shared more than 6,000 times.

In the video, a police officer can be seen taking seven shots at a kangaroo just a few metres away, with the animal seemingly slow to react to the bullets and trying to stay on its feet.

In a statement to the ABC, SA Police confirmed a number of attempts were made by the officer to "destroy" the kangaroo, but some animals could be more resilient than others.

This cop was standing 10 feet away and missed 6 times, the video shows dirt being kicked up after shots were fired.

Perhaps our police need more range time to improve their accuracy

Leftists and the Ayatollahs have a lot in common when it comes to criticism of Islam, they don't tolerate it.

Wrong tool for the job. Shouldn't have used a cop.... Grin
Seriously though, a 9mm glock is not going to do the job unless you put one right in the top of the head close up.
Standing 5m away taking pot shots is....well...what you see. Pistols are shyte for accuracy.

222 or 243, job done.

Muslims are turning kangaroos into servants of Allah.

This kangaroo earned its 90 virgins by not being easy to kill.

Please don't thank me. Effusive fawning and obeisance of disciples, mendicants, and foot-kissers embarrass me.

Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting,
"Holy Sh!t ... What a Ride!"

Yes that would not have been easy, still better than a shovel to the head which is what I did last time.

awful story... my son in law  ex NSW police killed quite a few injured roos.. during the course of his job....always with his service gun......he never did get used to it... perhaps this cop was a young guy, just because your a cop doesnt make you want to kill things...

I once saw a roo get hit by an oncoming ute with a metal bullbar at 100km/h. It went spinning through the air and landed off to the side of the road. I looked back in the rear view mirror and it was back on its feet.

I know that pistols, having fired one, are not easy to aim for a target more than 10 metres away. However, if you are within 5 metres, you should be able to shoot dead a kangaroo through its head.

Quite a bit of artistic licence in that scene

I have seen good heavy bull bars bent by roos
And never seen a windscreen survive a roo strike.

I have seen a fully loaded truck virtually destroyed on my way to emerald by a pack of pigs that wandered onto the road
Lots of pig everywhere, but one disabled truck.

And wombats are like hitting rocks
I destroyed a tie rod hitting one of those buggars out near Wollumbi a few years back.
