Have a look at some of the footage on the news tonight. Some cameraman get very close to the firefront and OHS policy would demand appropriate protective clothing.

A bit more dangerous than driving a turd car where the most dangerous part of the day is having half a bottle of creaming soda thrown at your car by a child.
