It feels like it to me. Afterall, its the State closest to Africa (Sport Capitol of World) - and full of Africans too. And Why do the Northern Territorians never compete in Sport? They do in the ACT.

I have been keeping somewhat an eye on athletics and some sports games throughout the country. I would say that NSW and Victoria seem to be the states that produce the best talent in the country. South Australia is hitting above its weight, Western Australia is doing well. Qld is performing below par. I have been avoiding watching many cricket games. The results were as I expected. Well below par.

And, if you really need to know why a region of Australia, with 250,000 residents are not as representative in sports as say states with 5 million or more people, then I don't know why you posted. My town of Rockhampton has had a number of representatives compete in the Olympics. That does not make my town a sporting powerhouse when it comes to sports teams.

I would love it if the high schools could put more emphasis on track and field exercises. It would be excellent if the groundsmen could lay down a track on the sports field each week for 4 out of the 5 school days and mow on the last day (or whatever suitable day), to allow all the year levels to have a go. Australia will continue to fall behind the likes of the United States and Great Britain in track and field if the continued apathy to sports and track events remain in the Australian psyche.

Well, I think its starting to be seen clearer these days that Australian Males have been 'below par' in Sport and unprofessional for many many decades. Even the American blokes are corrupt and farsical when it comes to sport.
USA/Aust Sporting males = violent, abusive, cheating, corrupt, grubby, deviant, scandals, etc, etc.

I think we should 'jilt' the guys in sports alltogether and base everything on the women. The Boxing Kangaroo Flag should have long eyelashes on it.

Thankfully Australian males excel at something else besides Sport. Roll Eyes

Thats because Melbournians didn't have anything else to do.

Look at it this way.

Sport in Sydney (aka NRL) never attracted big crowds - but their Entertainment venues did and do. It's shoulder to shoulder sometimes at Penrith Leagues Club.

Melbourne on the other hand, big crowds at Sporting venues - but their 'clubs' were sparsely populated.

Plus - BIG was not always better. Every Formula One driver loved Adelaide, then it was hijacked by greedy Melbourne and the race plummeted to 'last' on the most liked tracks by Drivers (and crowds). Only 'bored' people attend the Melbourne Grand Prix - not enthusiasts.

As far as States go. WA has a better track record at beating VIC sides. Even the West Coast Eagles beat a Melbournian side in AFL (the Melbournian game) Wink

First State of Origin game between WA and Victoria on 25 June 1977!!!

Nice. But the competition for 'Rules' State is a very messy affair and AFL is still a biased 'Melbournian' Code.

A better example would be the Cricket. Sheffield Shield is probably our best 'State' Code of all sports here.

Even the 'Colour' code of each State is better than the AFL version (Even though 'sport' in general has no idea of the 'artistically' correct colour co-ordination of Australia).

The Correct correlation of Colour for the Australian States is as follows:

QLD (Nth America) = RED
NSW (Oceania) = Grey/Silver
VIC (Sth America) = Green
SA (Middle-East) = Brown
NT (Asia) = Yellow
Nth WA (Europe) = Blue
Sth WA (Africa) = Black
TAS (Sahul) = White

...only have to look at Aussie Sportsman and how they play sports to tell they have had no idea right from the start. But hey, Maroon is close to 'Red' - right? Cheesy
