Loads of drugs come through Mexico via the border. The whole cartel industry is built on it. All the money , the people smuggling, the rape and the murder.

Trump's argument is that all of the drugs are coming through where there are no barriers.

That's quite simply not true, though (another Trump lie).

The vast majority of drugs enter through official U.S. ports of entry, not the areas of border in between where additional barriers could be erected.

90 percent of heroin seized along the border, 88 percent of cocaine, 87 percent of methamphetamine, and 80 percent of fentanyl in the first 11 months of the 2018 fiscal year was caught trying to be smuggled in at legal crossing points.

"Perhaps the best authority on how drugs are smuggled into the U.S. is Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, the Mexican drug lord arrested by Mexican officials in 2016 and later extradited to the U.S.

"During his ongoing trial in New York, several of his cartel members have testified that they mostly pushed drugs through U.S. ports of entry, stashing bricks of narcotics in cars, trucks and trains.

"None of El Chapo's associates has testified that they moved drugs through the open border regions in between those ports."

Indeed, and the traffic goes both ways. Mexico gets most of its illegal firearms from the US. The demand for those drugs comes from the US. The cartels get paid in US dollars.

Many criminal gangs come from the US too. Mr Trump's favourite gang, MS13, was started in LA. Its killings and kidnappings are the reason for all those Honduran, Guatemalan and El Salvadorian refugees.

Sorry - illegals.

The wall will save lives, every life is important remember.
Drugs are the scourge of society and if the wall just stops one hit getting through then it has done its job, wouldn't you say Kamel.

The drugs come through legal ports of entry, and the criminals come by air.

Is the wall going to close off all legal entry points, and extend to more than 30,000 feet in the air?

If they planted land mines at the legal ports of entry - which is exactly where the drugs enter - the border guards, and many other innocent people, will be killed.

Is that really what you want?

The drugs are coming in through the legal ports of entry, manned by US border guards, in cars, trucks and trains.

Land mines placed at those locations will kill innocent people.

Do you want to see innocent people die?

"During his ongoing trial in New York, several of his cartel members have testified that they mostly pushed drugs through U.S. ports of entry, stashing bricks of narcotics in cars, trucks and trains.

"None of El Chapo's associates has testified that they moved drugs through the open border regions in between those ports."

Oh, so no drugs are being walked through the totally unprotected border, one hit can destroy a life, why are you against this wall.

Pretty expensive on that basis.

Yes, they would be better off just planting land mines.

If they planted land mines at the legal ports of entry - which is exactly where the drugs enter - the border guards, and many other innocent people, will be killed.

Is that really what you want?

They are walking the drugs through at every point of the border, don't you want to save precious lives Greg.

Not according to the DEA, they are mostly coming through in transport on the highways.

And not according to the drug lords, either.

SoSeems like a lot of money to just save one life. Spend the money on better drug educatiuon, you might save many more.

In a time of universal deceit — telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)

I've seen no proof.

It's a total waste of money, that will achieve nothing.

Moreover, it's detrimental to wildlife and sensitive ecosystems.

And, of course, it's totally inhumane.

I most certainly do not. If I was on painkillers and could get cheaper black tar heroin from Mexico, I'd be onto it.

When I came back from Nam, white rocks from Thailand cost a fortune. The CIA must have made a killing.

You've just described the failings of your argument, Matty. Shipments of drugs and arms can't be walked over rivers and canyons where a wall would be useless. Not only would hardly anything get in, the smugglers would get caught.

Stick to your land mine solution, dear. You'd kill off a few Indians and rattlesnakes. Americans would get to keep their cheap drugs.

Funny stuff, a mere river or canyon will stop the drugs.
The pink rocks are top priority ATM.
