Having money per se is not a sin by default, however, the lure of earthly possessions on our lewd mortal body often lead us into temptation, and the 7 deadly sins. Wink

So having no possessions at all, takes away those temptations.

But, is having nothing at all, the path to enlightenment? THAT is the ultimate quest for human life.

Not really.

Having no possessions, does not relieve us of lust and temptation.

Having possessions/money is not a sin.

It is the lusting, for such, which is the wrong [against God]. ....which is idolatry [....loving the things in this world].

Possessions ?

1 Timothy 6:9

But godliness with contentment is great gain.

Ecclesiastes 7:16
Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself?

Even if we divested ourselves of all our possessions/money,
that wouldn't necessarily mean a blessed, happy and peaceful life,
....if we were to return to lusting after, possessions and money.

Try to be grateful [to God], and happy for the good things we have.

Try to help others in hardship, if/when we can.

This has been taught to him by evangelical churches teaching heresy.
