Australian schools in 'absolute decline' globally
Mar 13th, 2019 at 2:49pm

The article below has one fallacy. The performance of private schools has already been demonstrated to be inferior to public schools when the effect of wealth and privilege are eliminated. Students of public schools with parental wealth and privilege levels of those of private schools perform better in education.

Hang your heads in shame Australian born. Immigrants are putting you to shame. In fact, if it wasn't for the educational leadership of immigrants Australian born students following their leaders might be even further behind.

"The proportion of high achievers is decreasing and the proportion of low achievers is increasing,"

"Basically what's happening there is everything's sliding backwards if you like — our strong kids aren't as strong as they were and our weak kids are actually weaker than they were."

"Australia had some possibly surprising results, with Australian-born students faring worse than their first-generation counterparts who had at least one parent born overseas".

Australian schools are in 'absolute decline' globally, says PISA report
By Raveen Hunjan, Clare Blumer and staff
Updated 6 Dec 2016, 8:08pm

A global report on educational performance shows Australian 15-year-olds are getting worse at maths, science and reading.

About half a million students from 72 countries took part in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2015, including more than 14,000 Australian children.

Australia was significantly outperformed by nine countries, ranking just below New Zealand, well below Japan and Canada, and just above the United Kingdom and Germany.

Singapore's students ranked highest.

Dr Sue Thompson from the Australian Council for Education Research collected the Australian data and said local academic performance was in "absolute decline".

"The proportion of high achievers is decreasing and the proportion of low achievers is increasing," she said.

"Basically what's happening there is everything's sliding backwards if you like — our strong kids aren't as strong as they were and our weak kids are actually weaker than they were."

Federal Education Minister Simon Birmingham said the country could not afford to "continue to slip behind".

"Our children are no longer learning at the same rates through their school education as they used to and that is obviously unacceptable to governments, as it would be to parents, teachers and everybody across Australia," he said.

NT and Tasmania below OECD average
The Australian Capital Territory topped the rankings with Western Australia not far behind.

Only the Northern Territory and Tasmanian students ranked below the average of the 35 OECD countries including places like Canada, Netherlands, New Zealand, the UK and the USA.

Private and Catholic schools outperform public schools
While all school sectors in Australia have marked declining results since 2003, private and Catholic institutions continue to outperform the public schools.

"This is not surprising," Australian Education Union's deputy federal president Maurie Mulheron said.

"The Gonski review said this is exactly what would happen."

PISA: Australia ranks poorly, but what we can learn

Rather than leaping to conclusions about a failing education system, we need to look at what the data tells us.
"[The Gonski review] said that if we did not act as a nation to redress the imbalance between advantaged and disadvantaged students then we would slip down in international ranking," he said.

The gap between rich and poor schools were what the Gonski model was supposed to fix, Opposition education spokeswoman Tanya Plibersek said.

"Our results have become worse as our education system has become more inequitable," she said.

Mr Birmingham said school funding had gone up to record levels "yet performance has gone backwards".

"It really is time to end the politicking about money," he said.
First-generation students had best results
PISA examines whether immigrant students get the same education as students born locally.

Australia had some possibly surprising results, with Australian-born students faring worse than their first-generation counterparts who had at least one parent born overseas.

Yes. And even Gonski walked away from the reforms as implemented by Labor.

Been that way since they falked over the education system.. dumbed it down so to speak .. so as to permit 'higher' and more 'equal' grades for the mediocre .... oh, and to suit the way girls absorb knowledge.... funny that given the way IQ curves go.......

Just don't ask the parents whether the STEM subjects are simply too hard for their darlings.

If they don't do the STEM subjects the overall standards fall.

this is quite confronting.....

[urlhttps://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/student-protests-and-falling-education-standards-a-sign-of-the-times/news-story/1254c30229b30e26dae8c032822cefb4][/url]

Radical climate change activists are ramping up efforts to incite children to wag school on Friday in defiance of warnings by education authorities — and in the face of growing concerns about Australia’s plummeting education rankings.

Eco-activists are predicting tens of thousands of children will walk out of classrooms around the country to attend a national day of “school climate strikes”, including a lunchtime march in the Sydney CBD.

Labor leader Michael Daley on Wednesday threw his support behind the strike, claiming it was “a demonstration of young leadership”.

But the NSW Education Department warned that students skipping class would be marked absent and “subject to the school’s disciplinary code”, while Catholic schools implored students to attend school in a show of support for an anti-bullying program.

Dr Kevin Donnelly, education expert and author of How Political Correctness Is Destroying Australia, said the “indoctrination” of children into a “deep green ideology” about climate change was “appalling”.

He said the Australian Education Union’s backing of the truanting was “unbelievable” in the light of the nation’s dramatic slide in international literacy, numeracy and science rankings.

“The focus should be on raising standards and addressing the issue that Australian students are going backwards in maths, science and literacy,” he said.

“The focus should be on overcoming what is a very serious problem. Our ranking in the recent Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) results for reading was shocking.

“We’ve gone backwards in the past 10 years in terms of basic education standards.

“The curriculum has been dumbed down and students are being taught ideology.”

High-school teacher who urged students to sign up for an activist-promoted “climate change strike” has been stood down from teaching.

Greens candidate for Bega Will Douglas attended a daytime youth forum at Moruya Golf Club alongside other politicians last week and urged students “please, don’t forget March 15, the climate strike”.

THE SPELLING ON THE PLACARDS MADE AND CARRIED BY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS....SHOULD HANG THEIR HEADS IN SHAME..
JUST A FEW..

DISSAPPEAR
JELOUSE
EMVIROMENT
EMERGANCY..

IF SOME ONE COULD POST THE PICS FOR ME   I WOULD BE GRATEFUL..OR IS THAT GREATFUL?..

The maths, science and English teacher, who is a casual at Moruya High, said he attended the forum on his lunchbreak, with the full knowledge of the public school.

He told the audience of 12- to 25-year-olds to get online and register for the strike “because there’s a whole community out there wanting to support you guys, young people”.

Will Douglas.
But the NSW Education Department has told him he would not be offered more work.

The Daily Telegraph revealed last month the taxpayer-funded ecoactivist charity Australian Youth Climate Coalition is orchestrating a campaign to pressure students to wag school and teachers to get behind the action.

Mr Douglas defended his actions, saying, “I was just giving them some facts about climate change. Now I don’t have any work.

“It’s not my job to tell students to strike. They will make up their own minds and have been clearly leading the debate.”

Education Minister Rob Stokes said: “The Greens candidate for Bega was not on his lunch break and had not informed the school he was taking part in a political activity for his own benefit.”

Greens MP David Shoebridge defended Mr Douglas.

Male dominated education worked.
Females were given tell right to work and now look what's happened. Should never have been allowed to leave the kitchen.
