What happened to the "hole in the ozone layer" that was all the go back in the 80s?

First there was never a hole. Second we have no knowledge of any variance in ozone over the Antarctic before measurements were taken in the 1970's.

In September 2019 it was the smallest thinning recorded since 1982. It grew in 2016.

After they talked about the "ozone layer" they began talking about "greenhouse effect" or some such. I don't believe a word of it.  Wink

And Monk kept carrying on about global warming yet when we
had 100 year cold records broken all over the planet
he refused to apologise.

The little ice age caused the Thames river to freeze over in London.
That hasn't happened yet but it could.
What would he say then?

The world got together and banned CFC's  Cool

- unlike now, where the world is at war over Global Warming and CO2 emissions.  Sad

Lets not forget the British Nuclear tests in Australia.

Enough to blow a hole in the ozone layer.

Actually no Ajax. That would only have a temporary and local effect if anything.

It seems to be a flaw in your understanding of Science, Ajax.
You seem to think that temporary localized things such as cloud seeding and HAARP have a global effect on climate
Yet you refuse to believe that permanent global increases in CO2 could have an effect on global climate
very odd

Could being the operative word. Wink

According to CO2 theory increasing CO2 WILL lead to warming and increased water vapour, the dominant GHG.

Over 40 years of data show no increase in total global precipitable water.

Barny you have to get out more often, let some sun light hit you and smell the CO2 mate, isolation has made you more loppy than before................ Cheesy Grin Shocked Kiss

So you dont believe that an Electromagnetic pulse from HAARP can lift and heat up the ionosphere and can potentially change the weather and the climate around the world.

OR

That cloud seeding making clouds drop there rain prematurely on the other side of the world can have some sort of effect on our weather and climate here in Australia.

Yet you believe that manmade CO2 by burning fossil fuels will destroy us even though there is no correlation between CO2, man made or natural and the current rise in average global temperature.

Ok champ............ Smiley

Hey Barny dont feel bad mate.

Of the cuff I too believed in Anthropocentric Global Warming and became an instant foot soldier to save the planet.

One of the first things that struck me stupid was in this life and death crisis, that if we establish a carbon derivatives market on the stock exchange and payed billions of dollars for carbon derivatives as a nation we could go on polluting as long as we payed for it,

and then the rest is history.

Here you go Bobby.

September was world’s hottest on record, climate scientists say

Last month was the hottest September on record across the globe, climate scientists have revealed.

Surface air temperatures were 0.05C warmer than the year before, experts from the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service said.

Last month was the hottest in Europe, beating the record set in 2018 by about 0.2C. Temperatures were also abnormally high in the Middle East, Australia and South America.

A hot spell in the Siberian Arctic, which has affected the region for several months, contributed to the overall rise in autumn temperatures while sea ice melted to its second-lowest level on record. Parts of Britain hit 30C in September for the first time in four years. The record temperature for the month is 35.6C, set in Bawtry, South Yorkshire, in 1906.

Carlo Buontempo, director of the climate change service, said: “There was an unusually rapid decline in Arctic sea ice extent during June and July, in the same region where above-average temperatures were recorded. The combination of record temperatures and low Arctic sea ice in 2020 highlights the importance of improved and more comprehensive monitoring in a region warming faster than anywhere else in the world.”

David Mond, professor of mathematics at the University of Warwick, said: “We’ve now had 43 consecutive Septembers, and 417 consecutive months, with temperatures above the 20th-century average. The increases may not seem huge but lead to a huge increase in the frequency of what were previously exceptional events: record-breaking forest fires in California, rainfall in the French Alps so intense that it washes away roads, houses and even the bodies from cemeteries, and so many Atlantic hurricanes that we ran out of names.”

And the KNOW the average temperature of the earth back to 1900 to within +/- 0.01C accuracy.

Even when Phil Jones of CRU East Anglia, said that "For much of the SH between 40 and 60S the normals are mostly made up as there is very little ship data there".

Or Email 4582, Feb 2009, Phil Jones on global average surface temperature: "The work that estimated the 14 number (it was 14.02 for the globe) made lots of assumptions over the sea ice areas and the Antarctic. I always thought this was accurate to about +/- 0.5 deg C"

NASA has global temperature in 1900 of -0.7C. 1899 it is -0.17C and 1901 it is -0.15C. So really there was a spike of over 0.5C in two of those three years. Now that is rapid.
