2. Weather reports which are not collected systematically and so only tell us—the weather at certain places at that time.

Rubbish. So depending on the author it seems to be either halfway between Hawaii and California or between Japan and California. It is mostly microplastics. Microplastics have long been around ocean oil seeps etc and even have their own bacteria that feed on them.
