Or you can become a hermit state like North Korea.

Otherwise you are not going to have any global relevance or influence.

Eg, everyone signs up for climate change and America does not, well then your business are violating laws in other nations and can't export.

Eg, America makes a suggestion at the UN, and electorates around the world oppose America, then no one will work with America and vote in agreement with America, leading America to be left with the option of military diplomacy and nothing else.
