(and lose) again in 2020
H. A. Goodman
Will Hillary Clinton run again in 2020? If you watch Clinton’s May 1, 2019 interview with Rachel Maddow, where she alludes to China obtaining Trump’s tax returns, the writing is on the wall. To Hillary Clinton, Russia cheated her of a chance at the White House. According to Clinton during her Maddow interview, the Russians are also still rooting for President Trump.
Yes, Clinton will run again and Madam Secretary will raise even more than the $1.2 billion amassed in 2016. Democrats can’t approach this outrageous fundraising total with any other hopeful in 2020 and if they don’t win Florida and at least one major state in the Rust Belt, the Democratic Party has no chance of defeating President Trump. In addition, once Clinton makes the case that only she can outspend and beat Trump, the shock (among Democrats) of another Clinton run at the White House will be overshadowed by the prospect of a Trump reelection.
There are numerous Bernie Sanders clones, from Beto O’Rourke to Elizabeth Warren, and Clinton is younger than Biden, who also lost numerous elections. In terms of political clout, only Clinton is capable of surpassing the 20% support threshold held by Bernie Sanders and Biden, especially with the reverence afforded to the former nominee by CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, The Washington Post and most media. In addition, Maggie Haberman stated on Twitter that Clinton is waiting to see the Mueller Report before making a final decision; contradicting the recent spin that she had ruled out a presidential run in 2020.
According to Chris Cillizza in a CNN piece titled Hillary Clinton is OUT of the 2020 race. (Or is she?), Haberman dispelled rumors thatClinton had categorically stated she wasn’t running:
On Tuesday night, New York Times political reporter Maggie Haberman tweeted this:
“Spoke to someone close with Clinton in contact with her today. They say she wasn’t trying to be emphatic and close the door on running when she spoke to a local reporter yesterday, and that she was surprised by how definitively it played. The person also says she is extremely unlikely to run, but that she remains bothered that she’s expected to close the door on it when, say, John Kerry isn’t. She has told her team she is waiting at least to see the Mueller report.”
So, Clinton never said she wouldn’t run again and Haberman confirmed that Obama’s Secretary of State “wasn’t trying to be emphatic and close the door on running.” Furthermore, when Clinton stated prior to 2008 and 2016 that she was still contemplating a run at the White House, what happened? She ran against Obama and Trump, losing both times but gaining even greater political influence in Washington and among media. However, in order to truly understand why Clinton 2020 is a reality, one must take the recent Trump/Russia investigations in context.
The Mueller Probe just ended and President Trump is exonerated of collusion and obstruction, the two cornerstones of Democratic Party allegations since Clinton lost in 2016. When looking at recent U.S. history, it’s important to remember that both the Steele Dossier and Crowdstrike (a third-party tech firm outsourced to analyze DNC servers instead of the U.S. government) are linked directly to money from Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party. Even with Trump vindicated, millions of people believe Clinton was cheated by Russia and the president’s campaign.
William Barr’s battle with Congress over testimony only confirms that Democrats are paving the way for an imminent Clinton run at the White House. Although the “Trump colluded with Putin to hack the DNC” conspiracy theory has now been debunked, most Democrats still believe Trump is an illegitimate president. Democratic partisans claim since Clinton won the popular vote, Americans should do away with the Electoral College. The damage is done and millions believe Trump is the epitome of corruption; even more corrupt than Clinton. Democrats have succeeded in muddying the waters and making a morally relative political landscape. To the average Democrat, Clinton transferring Top Secret and Special Access Program intelligence onto servers outside the U.S. government is nothing compared to the possibility Trump helped purchase Russian Facebook ads in 2016.
