It's almost entirely performed by women, so i dont think they'd pose an enormous threat.

I did not consider the gender or the profession of those performing the procedure. Rather, implying that this genital mutilation would be the fault of those that called for the procedure to take place.

so their culture ?

Whoever calls for genital mutilation, irrespective of their background.

FGM is illegal in Australia, except for times when there is medical indication. Those 53000 people probably had it done else where. It is something that feminists around the world tried to stop. And its not only about FGM, FGM is just a reflection on the inferior rights of women in those society. And unless we address that, things like FGM or forced marriages will not stop.

I am not sure what Gordon is implying. Is that the medicare system is complicit in carry this procedure out on tax payer's expense or something?
