FD, I've asked several times but each time you've run away.

If you ran a business, and an employee posted something on social media that pissed off your customers and had the potential to cost you tens of hundreds of thousands of dollars or more, would you sack them if they refused to stop posting whatever it was your customers didn't like, or would you tell your customers that they can take their business elsewhere?

That is not the only question he has run away from on this matter.  If ever he gets around to answering that one, I'll push him some more on mine.

Effendi....what say ye to Mr Smith?

Has anyone managed to make sense of the double speak from Qantas CEO Alan Joyce? He denied pulling strings behind the scenes to get Folau fired, then followed it up by basically admitting that he threatened to pull Qantas sponsorship if they did not 'fix' the problem the same way he demanded Cricket Australia fix the ball tampering saga.

no havent read it to be honest....yes if you threaten anyone   you are provoking I would think...

perhaps he needs to take a step back and not use his position as a weapon...

sponsors have a right to distance themselves from controversy but thats where it should end...

I think Alan Joyce is doing far more harm to Qantas' reputation than Folau. There seems to be a culture of this sort of double speak in Qantas and I have personally seen them use it to rip people off.

His double speak about pulling the string to get Folau fired is in the OP.

he is very proud of Qanta and its name and so he should be....double speak....really he is trying to explain what its like to be a sponsor of such elitist sport... and sportsmen and women.....

if you paid millions to an organisation that used your NAME   wouldnt you want your name protected  if a member  used it to claim all paedos are innocent.????

come on fd...

I agree with you. I think he did pull strings behind the scenes to get Folau fired. I think he admitted to this in the article. But he also denied doing so - double speak, on behalf of Qantas.

well maybe that wasnt his intention....seriously do you think this would have gone to arbitration and get thrown out if it could be proved it was joyce who wanted him sacked .... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes I dont think the RU would humiliate their top sponsor like that...

they would have given in...

fd you seem to have it in for Joyce maybe he wont let you into his lounge room... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes dont forget   you are reading what he  has said.... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes.. it isnt always reported as so..

I don't think it matters (legally) who wanted him sacked. It was RA who sacked him.

If he did it at work or claimed to be representing my business, sure.

Folau did not harm Rugby Australia. The homofascists tried to, but I don't see any harm yet.

If he is publicly recognised as an employee of yours, he's representing you. It matters not if he claims to with every post he makes on social media.

and yet their sponsors, who provide them with millions of dollars annually, were threatening to walk. I'd say that classifies as 'harming RA', don't you?

What Filou said (as much as I dislike it) is the official view of most mainstream religions in Australia and is a view that is protected under our Human rights charter.

His right to express this view is also represented in the ARU's code of conduct which is the same document used to sack him on a different clause.

The separate clauses in the ARU's code of conduct are in conflict and the ARU in itself is in breach of its own code of conduct. To be consistent with action taken they would need to sack themselves which would be a sensible and justified move in the circumstances.

The ARU have IMO brought their sport into disrepute to a much greater extent than Filou. They managed to turn a storm in a tea cup into a major international controversy just because they are stupid.

Oh really Effendi?  So let's say you have 10 customers.  One employee...a Folau.  All your customers know him.

He says on social media that all your customers will go to Hell.

All ten of your customers come to you and say "We don't like being referred to in that way.  I am worried that my money is going to support a bloke with that view.  We ask that you sort that out."

Waddayagonnado Effendi?  Tell all ten of your customers to fuq off....and lose your business?

now you are getting it.....

who has the right of way here...

the employer or the employee..

wheres crook when you need him?..

if RU had told Folau to shut up... completely  or face the sack..

I agree  its taking away his FOS....

but I didnt see where they did that....

I dont know all the facts on this case

we have to be realistic   I doubt any sponsor signs up to a contract that will cost them millions without have some clauses in it.....

I know I wouldnt be...

so YES the RU has an obligation to their sponsors and I am sure this is brought in loud and clear when they sign a player up.....

if Folau  decided to appear in an ad singing their praises  for Singapore Airlines  do you think he would be breaking his contract??????/....

This is what he said, this is paraphrasing the scriptures and it isn't singling out homosexuals, it is including them in the list of sinners.

It's fair to blame the government for its pursuit of policies of division and of exclusion.... those mindless policies are the root cause of all the current hardline and escalating fighting going on between certain groups within this society ....

I'm waiting for the full outbreak of JaSin's civil war...

You have posted many links, the post previous lays out what he had said. There were liars, adulterers, drunks, fornicators etc all included.

This is the view he was sacked over. He may well have said worse since the guy is as dumb as dog doo doo, he has to be a Liberal voter to make it worse still.
