Wage Crisis Has Crushed Consumer Confidence

Wage crisis drives consumer confidence to two-year low   Sad

Wage crisis drives consumer confidence to two-year low

Consumer confidence has dropped to a two-year low as the Morrison Government wage crisis continues to cause damage throughout the economy, according to the Westpac-Melbourne Institute measure of consumer sentiment, released today.

Australian workers are concerned about their job security, wages and the nation’s overall economic performance.

The measure of expected economic growth over the next twelve months is at its lowest point in four years. Working people don’t believe the Morrison Government will do anything about the problems they are facing every week as they struggle to keep up with steadily rising costs of living.

Quotes attributable to ACTU Secretary Sally McManus:

“Cuts to penalty rates, arbitrary caps on pay rises and letting big business develop a wish list of ways to make jobs more insecure makes people are worried about their jobs and wages

“The wages crisis has crushed consumer confidence and people will not start to spend again until they are secure in their jobs and their wages are growing.

“The Morrison Government can act to end the insecure work and low wage growth crises. Its refusal to do so is hurting consumer confidence and further undermining the already weak economy.

“We have called on the Morrison government to commit to restoring penalty rates, lifting the arbitrary cap on public sector wages and delivering a real living wage because that will shore up people’s confidence and get the economy moving.  Today we repeat that call.”

Consumer confidence is low and crashing due to unemployment, depression and poverty

someone should tell Sally McManus

When you have the media speculating that Myers and DJs will be sent to the wall as result of dumping the price of 'pillows and doonas', you know things are bad

Deutch bank unloading 18,000 employees
Other banks dumping staff
NSW govt. to dump 3000 because it's $10.4 Billion short in stamp-duty ransoms due to property crash
Every day, someone's going broke and putting employees on the breadline

but ACTU thinks a couple of dollars pay-rise will fix all that?

ACTU will capitalise on anything --- and at the same time is scrabbling and stirring in order to grab migrant-labour as members

Maybe McManus thinks people are as idiotic as union members?   Maybe she thinks government can force the property market to revive while telling banks to reemploy all their dumped staff and bankrupted business to do likewise

Shame unions weren't agitating about all the migrant-labourers being airlifted-in to take thousands of jobs that Aussies don't have a chance of getting

What are unions whining and striking about instead -- that's right, their robot replacements

Why not face reality -- this country is broke and hopelessly in debt and constantly racking up more debt to pay for globalist nonsenses such as 'Yes' votes and 'Aboriginal inclusiveness' and millions thrown at the wall when housing tenants revert to their feral depravities when provided decent accommodation.  Com cars and overseas junkets but most of all, most probably, airlifting millions of foreigners to come to Aus for an all-expenses paid retirement, plus a continuation of the free money should they choose to return to their homelands (or has that been halted now?).  And for every job handed to a migrant, an Aussie misses out.  Same size pie but with increasing numbers desperate for a bite

Sally McManus grew up, obviously, in the belief that 'government' is Santa Claus.  And she's steadfastly refused to learn differently, grabbing any ratbag excuse chucked forth by banksters to justify her further whining with hands held out: gimme, gimme

We're in strife and a $2.50 per week pay rise will do zero to restore lack of consumer confidence

it's back to school time for McManus where she should be kept back after class for the next fifty years without pay until she learns to accept that without money coming in, people are not only disinclined to spend -- they're unable to.  And seeing it's reported that every Aussie household is in hock to what .. $19,000 courtesy of govt. debt (or is that $19,000 for each man, woman and infant?) it's going to be a long time before Joe and Julie Average start lashing out on new pillows and doonas, let alone prop up the collapsing car sales

Government action could deliver wage and super increases
10 July 2019

Government action could deliver wage and super increases

Increases in the Superannuation Guarantee are needed urgently to ensure retirement security for millions of Australians. The ACTU completely rejects the claims made by the Grattan Institute that such increases would defer wage rises.

Despite the super guarantee being frozen for the last 5 years, we have seen a historic period of stagnant wage growth, the longest period of sustained low wages growth since the end of the second world war.   Sad

The reality is that government intervention is required to shift the balance in collective bargaining and allow working people to win higher pay rises, and is also required to increase the super guarantee to ensure that all Australians have a comfortable retirement.

Quotes attributable to ACTU Assistant Secretary Scott Connolly:

“Wage rises and an increase to the super guarantee are essential to ensuring that Australian workers can support themselves and their families throughout their working lives and into retirement.

“Super is deferred wages that should afford works a comfortable retirement, Australian workers need better pay and better super, there shouldn’t be a choice.

“The causes of the wage crisis are much more obvious. The system is stacked against working people and in favour of corporations

“The government continues to watch low wage growth drag on because they care more about catering to employers than ensuring that working people have enough money to support themselves and their families.   Sad

“Ending the wages crisis while increasing the super guarantee would provide a huge boost to the economy through increased consumer demand and increased investment in jobs.

“If the Morrison government wanted to improve the super system it could start by abolishing the $450 per month threshold, addressing systemic theft of super and ensuring that women retire with as much financial security as men.

“The Morrison Government has consistently taken the side of employers and business against the interests of the vast majority of Australians who are struggling without real pay rises and an uncertain retirement.”   Sad

win higher pay rises from whom ?

from all the hole in wall businesses whose owners, after paying increasing rents, increasing utilities, increasing insurance, etc. etc. are barely scraping a basic wage themselves ?

how about McManus aims her fire at landlords?  Does she know what it takes to run a business in the first place?  Does she know that main-street independent retailers are continuing to be sent to the wall as result of massive shopping centres?  Does she know what percentage of a shopping centre tenant's takings are sucked up in rents and levies?

She justifies her own salary by firing arrows at random, hoping some blame will stick

how many employees will be taking pay in an hour or two for sitting online, on facebook, ebay, etc.?  At the end of the week, they expect to be paid by the employer who can barely afford to buy himself a coffee

Too many idiots believed Shorten would gift them a free $50 note a week if they got Labor through

too many

Not that LNP are any better

A couple of uncontaminated high school teachers would make a better job of running this country's finances

a year ago, apparently, our national debt stood at 483.7 USD bn, up from  444.6 USD bn in 2017.  I believe it to be much higher and for sure will exceed 500 USDbn this year

going backwards and chasing uni debt from students backpacking overseas isn't going to fix it

nor will a paltry wage rise of a few dollars a week

so let's talk about contracts to supply what will be superceded military hardware

if the average voter ran their family budget with the same devil may care attitude of career politicians, they'd be in debtors' prison or eating grass from park lawns

but the unions like to play heroes for the common man while raking it in themselves

Setka is now taking Labor to court ... he wants to hang onto his half million a year for doing what?   And union members are so intoxicated by the thought of $3 extra a week that it doesn't seem to occur to them to look at their leaders

The Lefties keep trying to fantasize how bad things would be now if Labor had won.

The tax reductions and interest reductions are already stimulating the economy.

and the share market is pleased with the Libs.

The tariff war between China and Trump is the main thing hanging over Australia.

But soon ADANI will be earning billions as billions of tonnes of clean Australian coal goes to India to power their huge nation which will become a trading partner for Australia.

And Dutto stopping the boats is saving Australia millions by avoiding Illegal Invader prison costs.

All Australians should give Thanks that Shorty did not get in. Surely this was an Act of God in answer to ScoMo's prayers.

Well - there goes the retail boom... all that's left now is to entice the many into borrowing a million or so to buy a house they will lose in the next economic downfall or in their divorce ..... and the banks and their shareholders and ceos and management will grow fat... and our national prosperity can be lauded as one of the best in the world while the slums develop at an alarming rate ....

One dreads to think how bad the rest must be .....
