ScoMo's got Newstart numbers declining
Aug 12th, 2019 at 6:50am

While Labor and GetUp! and the Lefties tear around like headless chooks ScoMo actually reduces the number of people on Newstart by moving them to jobs recreated by the Libs after Labor destroyed them.

The Libs are just so far ahead on economic management they make the Labor hexspurts look like amateurs.

New figures show fewer Newstart recipients

The number of Australians receiving unemployment benefits has decreased by more than 42,000, or five per cent, in the past year.

Within that figure are more than 8000 young people who have moved into full-time work or study after receiving Youth Allowance payments, new figures show.

Social Services Minister Anne Ruston told reporters in Adelaide on Sunday the creation of jobs and new employment pathways had resulted in the reduction of Newstart recipients.

“If you are unemployed and you’re on Newstart, we will do everything that we possibly can to get you off Newstart and into a job,” Ms Ruston said.

She said there was no indication those who no longer relied on Newstart were moving to other forms of welfare payments.

In South Australia, more than 4000 fewer jobseekers relied on benefits in 2018-19 – a 5.5 per cent decrease compared with the national average of five per cent.

The Morrison government has resisted mounting calls to increase the Newstart rate.

Reserve Bank governor Philip Lowe said on Friday that raising it would be more effective to stimulate the economy in the short term than cutting taxes for high-income earners.

“There are a myriad of different fiscal policies that can stimulate the economy,” Senator Ruston said.

She said tax changes and government spending, including $100 billion on infrastructure, were two examples of how the government was tackling the economy’s sluggish growth.

Did Ruston leave out the ones they've cut off?

How many hours work a week are those 'not on Newstart' getting?  Did she even mention 'Youth Allowance'?

Seasonal glitch - things will get better as usual in the leadup to Christmas holidays, then will get worse once school finishes.

Here's one bit of air-brushing for a start:-

" study after receiving Youth Allowance payments, new figures show.

Social Services Minister Anne Ruston told reporters in Adelaide on Sunday the creation of jobs and new employment pathways had resulted in the reduction of Newstart recipients."

Another lie by obfuscation - they may have gone off Newstart - now they get Student Allowance, but that's not 'another form of welfare' - well Newstart isn't welfare anyway - it's Social Security, so if they go onto anything else they might go ON welfare, but off Social Security.

She needs to  get her facts right before she speaks.

Maybe some honesty ?

How can the newstart decrease when unemployment is not going down ?

It only means that the government have found some method to not pay unemployed people the allowance that they should get.

Improving unemployment numbers should be the method used to reduce newstart numbers.

ScoMo is recreating NEW jobs that Labor destroyed and these are taking up the slack in NewStart.

A concept totally alien to the Labor Party.

the newstart numbers might be down but not the unemployment numbers. They got the numbers down by cutting ppl off.

Possibly the small reduction in dole bludgers might be just a decimal point in the unemployment %.

Or perhaps new people that lost their jobs due to the unions wrecking their employer have been added keeping the unemployment % the same.

And just to show how GetUp! etc deliberately distorts about unemployment
