it wont be long before the BIG  M will dominate the highways of Mt Everest.... gotta happen its gotta happen...... can they get WiFi up there do you know????

Yes they can get WiFi up there. There is also mass line-ups in the summit stage with hundreds of climbers waiting to take their turn for a 'Selfie'. 12 died from conditions just this year - waiting their turn.
I've been up around Everest. It's a rubbish dump of epic proportions.

We all know what Monolith the Whitey Man holds sacred.
(As Stanley said
"The Monolith symbolises the TV, the Cinema and now the Computer and how many a Man has become entirely dependent on them for survival."

Can a stranger climb the arch on Sydney Harbour Bridge?

There are many places where strangers, unsupervised are not allowed to go.  One of them happens to be Uluru now.  Indigenous people are the traditional custodians of the Rock.  They decide who climbs and who doesn't.  Otherwise, why were they granted land rights?    Cool

Don't they do climbing tours of the harbour bridge?

I notice you didn't list any hills or mountains there Brian. Why is that?

I noticed he didnt list the roof of his house either..

Under supervision, Cods, under supervision.  Strangers are not allowed to climb Sydney Harbour Bridge or any other place I mentioned.  Funny that, 'cause that is what some fools are demanding they being allowed to do on Uluru.

I am unsure why people who will more than likely never, ever climb Uluru are so upset by the idea that the Traditional Owners have decided to stop people climbing it.  Pauline Hanson changer her mind after climbing part way and decided that climbing it was dangerous.  Why aren't they willing to accept her word?  Mmmm?  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

but no not all could climb Uluru..   an overweight friend of mine was not allowed to....

dont know if that was because she was an overweight stranger.. Sad

"Strangers" are people not known to the Traditional Owners/Proprietors of Uluru.  Tourists who just drive up and start climbing the Rock.   I would have thought that was obvious.  Is English not your first language, Cods?  Roll Eyes

People who climb Sydney Harbour Bridge must pay an exhorbitent fee and be supervised during the climb.  Their names must be known and their addresses as well.  You should try it.  It would do you good to get out of the house.

So now national icons that are sacred to all real Australians are now the exclusive property of those who were never Australians before 'Invasion Day'... the day that eventually brought them roads, cars, hospitals, the dole, longer life, far lower infant mortality rate, better healthcare, support for those afflicted by the violence of the strongest ape, sewerage, fishing rods and boats, guns to shoot kangaroos..... not to mention urbanising them so as to aid in the recovery of the native animals they claim to have been 'husbanding' for thousands of years.... more farken goannas now then when Blackey ran the show....  nobody farken burns off swathes of bush to toast snakes and goannas and such for the supper table... now we've got Farken WAR burning off the bush to attack Whartey like that dopey Aboriginal chick in Melbadishu said while she was feasting off Whartey's table.......

Oh... and BTW.. "Invasion Day" gave them the opportunity to even claim Ayers Rock as some 'secred site, mete'.... wihout 'Invasion day' it would be open slather for anyone who could get past the spears of the local itinerants.... not that anyone with sense would want to wander out there anyway...

Actually, Indigenous Australians were not counted as "Australians" until 27 May 1967, Graps.  Please get your history right.  Roll Eyes

Sydney Cathedral is man made
SHB is man made
MCG is man made

Who made Ayres Rock?

Immaterial.  They are places where climbing, unsupervised, is prohibited, Gordon.  When strangers are allowed to wander off the street and climb those places, get back to us.  Roll Eyes

Are any of them off-limits because some group has projected spiritual significance onto them and used that as a basis to ban women from it, as well as men from the wrong racial groups?

bri bri doesnt think like that fd......hes too busy chest beating... Grin Grin

they may have to instal more port a loos at the base now they cant climb..... Wink Wink

The only explanation I have is that Brian think Aborigines and Muslims are so inferior to him that he has to give them a free pass, even when it comes to the government discarding separation of church and state and imposing sexist and racist exclusions on behalf of aborigines.

It's the soft bigotry of low expectations.

Comparing climbing Ayres Rock to climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It's a publicly paid for and critical piece of infrastructure and when people climb it, the police have to close the bridge and gridlock a huge city for half a day.

And for how many years was Sydney Harbour Bridge, this wonderful piece fof publically paid for architecture closed, Gordon?   For most of it's existence.  Uluru has been open to the public ever since it formed.  I think it's time for the traditional owners to exert their influence and demand their rights.   You're moaning 'cause you never leave Bondi anyways.  You'll never visit Uluru.  Roll Eyes

Quote:
Ayres Rock is just a natural land formation and is no different to any other big rock, hill or mountain. If there is a valid reason to stop people from climbing it, then those reasons should be applied to all rocks, hills or mountains.

The valid reason is 'cause it's sacred.   No other hill or mountain is.  You have to live with it.  Your moaning and whinging is just that, moaning and whinging.  Tsk, tsk.  Roll Eyes

Quote:
I don't accept the notion that it's sacred, just as I don't accept any other rubbish from any other religion.

What you accept is immaterial.

Tens of thousands of NON-aboriginal racial affiliation, Australians.
Don't like people climbing on Uluru.
You don't need to be aboriginal to respect the place.
Uluru is sacred to many NON-Aboriginals.

I'm unaware of any Birth Certificate that has a person's present address on it, Cods.

When you apply for permission to climb Sydney Harbour Bridge you must use ID (ie a Driver's License) and you must pay either by Cheque or Credit Card.  All of which is traceable.   Roll Eyes

The only reason most people go to that part of Australia is to visit Ayers Rock, regardless of whether most people dont climb the rock placing any restrictions on access is bad business. The local abos have just fked themselves over big time.

There are plenty of Mountains that are prohibited

1) Balls Pyramid (Australia) - climbing of Ball’s Pyramid was banned in 1982 through provisions in the Lord Howe Island Act, but the ban was relaxed in 1990 to restricted climbing and climbers now are required to send an application seeking permission from the state minister.

2) Mount Gangkhar Puensum (Bhutan) -  In 2003, local authorities banned any form of mountaineering of the mountain out of respect to the mountain’s great spiritual significance.

3) Spider Rock (USA) - Climbing of Spider Rock is forbidden as a directive for an absolute and total ban on all forms of rock climbing around Navajo Country.

4) Shiprock (USA) - a tragic death in 1970 on the mountain led to the strict and total ban on the climbing of the mountain. Members of the Navajo community place great significance to Shiprock and the mountain a sacred place according to Navajo traditional beliefs.

5) Mount Machhapuchhre (Nepal) - Climbing of Mount Machhapuchhre is banned due to the religious significance of the mountain.

6) Mount Kailash  (Tibet) - Due to the religious significance of the mountain, a strict and complete ban on all mountaineering activity on Mount Kailash is in place.

https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/the-forbidden-mountains-of-the-world.html

So the ban on climbing Ulluru is not unprecedented

You can't climb the rock now.

That's the only change.

Everything else is the same as usual.

The vast majority of visitors didn't climb the rock anyway.

Nothing to see here.
