Anyone who wasn't assaulted by priests as a child would interpret that as the pope being assaulted by that woman.

I don't know I'd go along with the headline, did she throw softdrink at him? Perhaps he was protecting himself or his property. The popemobile is a very expensive piece of kit.

she was a bit excited and pulled him towards her. I can understand him pulling away in that situation, but for him to lash out ?... surely she's not the first overzealous fan he's met?
lets put this in context, if you did that to me I would knock you out and stand in no danger of criminal charges. This was the Pope, she is lucky she wasnt shot dead by his bodyguards.

you could certainly try, and i'd still be laughing at you.

He's the pope, shaking worshipers hands is part of the job. Many worshipers would get excited at the prospect and he should be used to it. He spends his life preaching forgiveness, and then resorts to assault at the first sign of discomfort.

John is it OK to do that to women who "should be used to it"?

You don't think the pope should be held to higher standards than some mug down at the pub, FD?

In answer to your question, if they're willing participants, sure.

Some mug at the pub would just punch you in the face.

Why should the pope be held to higher standards? And how do you get from higher standards to lying about what happened?

You said the pope assaulted a woman. It was the other way round. You lied.

Has the pope ever preached that people should be forgiven while they are still in the act of assaulting you?

bullshit. She may have been overzealous in her approach and yanked harder than intended, but i doubt you'd find a single judge who would rule that as assault. He was there sahking hands with the pilgrims. She got a bit excited, He then assaulted her when he slapped her.

you've never had anyone clasp your hand harder than intended, or shake with a little more effort than they should when shaking hands FD? I have, i didn't turn around and slap them, and I'm not even gods representative on earth Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

sure, I understand it went something along the lines of '"forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us."

now fd, why do you lie?

AKA assault. If you saw someone do this to an old man in any other context you would be calling for their arrest.

So he was asking to be assaulted?

Is it OK to do that to women who "should be used to it"?

"So many times we lose patience, even me, and I apologise for yesterday's bad example," the pope told thousands of pilgrims gathered in St Peter's Square on Wednesday (local time) at the end of the traditional New Year Mass.

"All violence inflicted on women is a desecration of God," he told a packed St Peter's Basilica

I'm no fan of Catholicism, in this case the pope is not the wrong doer, neither is the woman if she was just over excited at her contact with the pope.

If every thing is above board, I can put it down to an over zealous worshiper and a tired old man who lost it for a moment.

Does anybody know what she said to him?
