on New Years Day in the US, 177 people died from guns. Just one day.

let's all celebrate, huh?

and in australia, not one person died from a gun.

An estimated 132 of those 177 were suicides

"As the fireworks burst to mark the new year, so did the guns. On New Year's Day there were 45 non-suicide gun violence deaths across America, according to data compiled by the Gun Violence Archive research group. Including suicides by gun, there were 177 deaths."

"The data is collected in realtime from 6,500 sources and updated as new information in incidents is established. It includes homicides, murders, and unintentional and defensive killings. There were an estimated 132 suicides by gun on New Year's Day and 103 injuries."

Gun control has very little effect on the rate of suicide, other means are used if a gun is not available. Australia's suicide rate has hardly changed since Port Arthur and Howard's gun "buy back"

so yuo think that 45 people killed in a day by others is okay?

your argument is specious because prior to Pt Arthur, australia still had very few guns. very few suicides were by gun beforehand and now, almost none.

A suicide by any means imaginable = a 100% successfully planned self-termination, that brings the terminator 100% satisfaction with the outcome. Wink

No, law enforcement needs to up it's game against those criminals......

The gun didn't kill those 45 people, the criminal killers who pulled the trigger were 100% to blame, & it's they that need all the attention from law enforcement. Law enforcement can do better to lower the toll by enforcing  existing criminal law.

Likely plenty of the suicides were assisted without permission.

Yep, & how they died is immaterial, be it drugs, exhaust from a car, a razor to the wrist, a speeding train, a drunken midnight walk into the ocean, or a bullet from a gun......dead is dead.

Neither.  Wink

That said, guns are more trustworthy than people.....guns don't have a mind of their own, they don't lie, they are 100% faithful,  & they aren't capable of insane thoughts. They just lay there, & do nothing, that is until a person makes them do their bidding.

Suicides do society a favor, taking themselves out of the equation.....permanently.

I think it was Chopper Reid that said "I never killed anybody that didn't deserve killing"

Said no gun ever......

Some Fact Checks:

75-100 folks (are) killed a month and over 200 wounded by senseless gun violence."

Result:
Mostly false
, should be per day.

"You can have an active warrant for your arrest for murder and legally pass a background check system in the state of Texas" to purchase a gun.

Result:
Mostly True
.

Says people convicted of felonies or under restraining orders "can buy a firearm without going through a background check."

Result:
True

Law-abiding gun owners stop crimes "2.5 million times a year," according to the federal Centers for Disease Control.

Result:
Mostly False
They don't really know more likely half of that number.

"If you go back, you can see Wayne LaPierre, who runs the NRA, testifying in front of Congress in favor of background checks 15 or 20 years ago."

Result:
True.

"Less mass shootings under Trump”

Result:
Pants on fire.

"When Connecticut did licensing, their shootings dropped, their murders dropped 40%. Suicides dropped 15%."

Result:
Mostly True.

In 2017, the first piece of legislation that Republicans passed "made it easier for the mentally ill to purchase guns."

Result:
Half true
   - It wasn’t the first legislation passed.

About 7500 people die in the US every day.

A 2015 study from the non-profit organization Berkeley Earth estimated that 1.6 million people in China die each year from heart, lung and stroke problems because of polluted air.

so you support the ending of healthcare and the legalisation of murder??

While obviously a ridiculous question... but I'm not sure. maybe you do.

Your linking of these things and your assumptions (in the absence of any arguments) is what's  ridiculous.

New Year always has a spike in suicides.

177 gun deaths in one day. or if it help to think of it as 45 NON-SUICIDE gun deaths in one day.

The worst part of it is that it is only slightly above the average toll.

Pulling the trigger is ineffective if you don't have a gun.

Squawking that it is people not guns is just unbelievably, Squawk, Squawk, stupid.

No law anywhere in the world can keep a criminal from accessing a firearm if they seriously want one, especially in America where of those 400+ million guns, over 300 million are unregistered, are owned anonymously, & the government doesn't have a clue where they are located, & who are the owners....even exactly what kind of guns are out there is unknown....so what part of Camelot are you looking to move into?
